Hey... This is a fun one...
I've got live setup so that when I record it's output into it's input it is +/- a half millisecond off, so it is pretty well adjusted for input latency.
The fun begins though when I try to sync say my electribe mx to live. Apparently it isn't getting a very stable sync signal. I've tried outputting sync from my midisport 8x8... my audigy 2 midi out... uc-16 controller, but anything other less than 1/4 note accuracy on beat seems to be wildly off. Almost like the midi sync signal is adding some kind of wacky groove.
So... I tried to sync live up to the electribe for midi... which works, but now it sounds fine, but live puts warp markers in the wrong place and stretches my poor audio. To make things worse Live doesn't seem to be grabbing the audio quite right as events are +/- a few milliseconds in the viewer. Deleting all warp markers is leaving strange artifacts at the start/finish of the loop.
The strange this is... the electribe seems to sync just fine to fruity loops.
Anyone have any suggestions, ideas, experience fixing any of these types of problems? I'm trying to work on recording loops on the fly into live which works okay for some things (rewire for starters... or fruity rewired to live outputting to a midi channel), but live outputting a midi clock doesn't seem to be highly stable. Maybe it doesn't generate a reliable reference clock source?

Your comments interested me. I am trying to sync Live in OSX to an outside source like the Electribe. Worked fine in OS9 now MIDI clock is highly unstable. Live as a master is fine, but not as a slave (in version 1.5 OSX anyways)

Well.....
What I've found is that if you intend to do any recording it is very important to make sure that you have the lowest latency possible and to make sure you figure out your input latency by hooking your output up to your input... recording, adjusting latency... mix stir/repeat.
From there, you'll need to twiddle your midi clock output latency to get all your midi devices to line up properly. I think my input latency was around 17-19 ms total, while my midi clock output was set to something like -20 or -30 or some such value. When I get home if I get a chance to check it out I'll look this up.
It causes everything to sound better, but it isn't perfect. apparently there is still drift in the clocks, but at least you'll be matching up properly on 1/4 notes or whatever.
Unfortunately it still isn't perfect, I occassionally I get some strange behavior, but it sounds much more like the original groove box sound instead of the swung the hell out sound.
