trigger finger

Post by joeyfivecents » Wed May 31, 2006 4:08 pm

I just got one yesterday and can't get it to work with impulse. It's also supposed to already have a pre-mapped Live setup but of course there is nothing about it in the manual so I have no idea how to load it. I'm not new to midi contollers or music software but I can't seem to get this one. Does anyone have a basic template for Live to share or some advice? Thanks in advance.

I believe there is a preset that has the proper note range to control the impulse.

If you install the enigma software you can view the presets by name, so you'll know what number preset to pull up.

You can also make your own presets which can be cool.
A neat trick is using the pressure controller values to control effect values, so you can press on a pad to saturate a sound with an effect, or mix your song by pad pressure.

Hit up your manual for details.
Hope this was helpful.

Load preset 10, arm the impulse track, and start banging away :)

or press the 2 buttons on the left top

then click the pad u want kick - change it to C3 (i think!) and etc D3 on and on for the pads you want to assign.

then click the top left button and then the Program number pad you want to save it 2, i.e P2

preset 10 is the way to go. you might want to edit the aftertouch controls though, each pad can send a different one, they dont all have to be linked.

Impulse is not that coo' get Battery 2 and just map the pads to the cells

or just use simpler for your drums

syke (but not really) I never use impulse because I've smoked way to much weed since I was a kid and having all those midi notes in one clip makes me pass out - plus Ableton doesn't have a Midi split feature which takes all your midi notes in one clip and seperates them out into individual tracks

DAMN YOU ABLETON!!!

but I think it's preset 10 or 11 - easy

thanks for your help. I wish I could afford Battery 2 but I spent all my money on Live 5, a powerbook, pluggo, and melodyne. I'm having the most fun with Live, although I still wish I could lay my drum parts out in "patterns" like FL Studio. But, alas, this is not FL and I have abandoned my windows machine. See ya.

Ive had trouble with the trigger finger as well. Ended back on my mpc..problem with mpc is it has so little memory. the prospect of being able to access unlimited samples from my comp is brought me to ableton. Midi is complicated since im user to hardware.

Eehhh... Midi is hardware. Midi has been around for so much longer that DAWs an VSTs...

Anyway... Read the manuals - it's not that hard. And if you don't get the midi part - get a book on midi (try Paul White) or look for some basic articles on the net. It gets so much easier when you have a basic understanding of what you're doing.

The key is that the impulse drums (as most drum kit software) are just triggered by a midi note. In Impulse, it's C3 to C4. You can trigger impulse by any hardware that sends in a midi note on for those notes.

The trigger finger has presets 10 and 11 already set up with c3-c4 as the bottom 8 pads.

So just press on the TF preset, and pad 10.

Then change the input of the impulse midi channel in Abes Live to All Ins or to Trigger Finger in, then turn monitoring to On for that channel.

Then bash away on the pads.

Presto. Music.

After a while you'll want to branch out and use two kits with one preset, or use other pads for clip triggering or something. I can't help you there - my trigger finger died underneath a taxi cab wheel a few months ago, and now I am lost without it.

Wow... I had a friend who lost a bag of CDs to the same cause. Sad.

Yeah preset 10= 1 impulse, preset 11 =2 impulses!
But for me, the hard part is the after touch thing, I have no idea how to do that, very frustrating.
The manual is about the worst one can find, w/bunch of "you can do..." but no "this is how.."

It's just like a knob or a fader. But instead of turning or sliding - you apply pressure to the pad. Voila! The TF sends CCs!

Yes I understand how it works, not how to program it! Do I have to enter values manually through that Enigma(tic) software? How to do it within Live midi assign??? That's my question, not really addressed in the "manual"
Thanks
