I've been doing this too. The best thing to do is to set the Warp settings to complex and then import your mp3's on individual clips. You can then check through that the warp markers are in the right place and from there play about putting them in order. Given that you can automate everything, you can assign clips to A or B channel and use the crossfader to mix between the two.

Hi,

I'm a complete newb to Ableton, I'm gonna purchase the SWA video tutorials to get me started. I'm really interested in using Abelton to produce mixes so any tips that people have on doing it would be greatly appreciated. Do people have any recommendations for beginner's on training material or things to start with.

Cheers...

The best tip I could give is start with some fairly easy house with a dominant 4/4 beat as it is easier to see and to manually warp (if you need to) in the clip view.

aria-9 you can easily put each mp3 in an individual clip in the track view (the vertical strips) and then copy and paste them to the arrangement view (horrizontal strips). You can see the graphic representations of the file in the clip view on the bottom of the screen. As for automating the crossfader, you don't have to all the time, but it can help to make the transitions between tracks smooth and musical. 8)

I think the best thing to do is to watch the tutorials and then play with it, no better way to learn than by your mistakes!

Yo,

Like you said, just work through the tutorials, every tutorial is relevant to what you want to do.

I've been using Ableton for 3 years, and I still checkback through tutorials every now and then to brush up on stuff.

A good forum is:

http://www.abletonlivedj.com

You'll find loads more information there as well as on this forum.

Theres also a few books around as well as other tutorial DVD's.

have fun

With regards to Tutorial Video's would you recommend either the swavideo tutorials or the ask video tutorials?

i don`t know the other one , but the ASK covers exactly what you learn if you follow the tutorials in the programm itself and read a bit the manual.

if you are looking for some special tipps, read the book: Ableton Live 5 - tips and tricks - by Martin Delaney.
this covers some different views soft- and hardware-sides.
