and you couldn't say ass or bitch on tv. Geez, times have changed.

Did you know that the first prime-time USA television show to use the word bitch uncensored was The Simpsons?
One of my favorite shows, along with south park, chapelle show, daily show, etc. I think censorship is wrong coming from the top down, and am fine with the freedom of "artistic" expression and such. I guess I just think it is too easy for kids to be bombarded by more adult language and themes from an early age. It is really up to parents to raise their kids well with boundaries to not end up with their daugthers "shakin' that laffy taffy", wearing "hot bitch" t-shirts, and ho'ing around at age 15. I think that comments about life here in the usa, as well as those directed as mediterranean countries have to be taken with a grain of salt--sure, some people are crass and "slutty", but a lot more people aren't--it's just easier to spot and talk about the people who stand out (in a bad way) for these types of actions. Plus, hopefully most of the people that act this way grow up at some point.

Exactly. You see, the real problem is parents. Many don't take enough active participation in the raising of their children.

The numbers of single parent homes are increasing.... as are homes with 2 parents working full-time. This leads to children being unsupervised. It is this which drives the censorship, because parents are too busy/lazy/apathetic to actually pay attention and guide what their children do/see/watch/learn. They want someone else to set standards, because they can't be assed to do it themselves.

And it's not just poverty which drives it. I went to an all-boys prep school in Washington, DC. Many of the kids in my class had mothers who didn't work.... yet they had live-in au pairs. I guess that raising kids gets in the way of shopping and playing tennis with the ladies at the club.

can't speak for the other countries but since I'm from Italy I can certainly say that painting us as a bunch of womanisers it's a pretty weak stereotype.

not answering the question tho

your average woman can walk through the streets of one of italy's larger cities, and not once get verbally mauled by guys on the street.

true or false ?

cos that is absolutely 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% true for the rest of europe.

you couldnt possibly say its true (unless you live in a cave which you never leave, wearing only an italian flag), but I'm interested in what you have to say

Guys.... I will settle this minor dispute for you.

Men are greaseballs.... in every country.

European men just smell worse than others.... especially Italians.

heh, sorry subter...cant agree with you on this one, having seen it with my own eyes.
not to mention when its your (female) friends on the receiving-end it becomes alot less hypothetical, and a bit more factual. its true. so true, its sickening.

living amongst it, you really have to come to terms with it. You'll find yourself chewing your fist walking down the street....

(i'm only really hanging on the topic since wavejumper called us cunts before editing it with something more diplomatic - and he's wrong)

Which part? That men are greaseballs, or that Italians smell bad?

i don't get you, most of the times a girl can walk without being hassled by boys in any major italian city? true, most of the times. eventually it might happen, like everywhere else. my point is that I resent being called a greaseball by a bunch of nerds who knows fuck all about Italy and that would keep their mouth firmly shut had this conversation been taking place in a public real place. not to mention the irony that this thread is about the ills of stereotypes.

since you asked, the men are greaseballs bit. that may or may not be true, if its true then what we're talking about is restraint, decency, common courtesy & a smidgen of respect.

women dont get that walking down the city streets of the mediteranian cities, 100% true as anyone who's been there (with a female companion) will tell you.

I seen all kinds of crazy shit in this respect, I've done my fair share of travelling and living abroad, as have lots of my friends. Some female friends of mine broke up with their boyfriends, and left because off it. Another female friend used to get mauled on the train, since it was so packed

its just a fact of life, best to accept it and not get tied up in nationlist pride bullshit.

where else have you been anyways ? turkey perhaps ?

and no one called you a greseball man, what was being discussed was the way women get treated on the streets in italy, spain, turkey ......you are foolish for taking offence to this, especially since its so f-ing true

i must have imagined it all, and I must be mentally blocking it out from all the other cities I've been to & lived in

Exactly. It was a joke... just giving him some shit. I was just pouring lemon-juice on the wound.... and I obviously got the effect intended.

will do you cheap greaseball you
starting to make more sense now...knowing you've never lived outside rome. hard to be aware of your greasy surroundings if you are completely emersed in it.
thankfully italy has internet, perhaps the gentry can pick up some manners off the rest of the world now ? if they can pry themselves away from the animal porn
