I experience the same - I believe that happens when Live isn'T the application running in the foreground anymore. Could that be the case?

I don't understand why this happens though because it shouldn't and doesn't in any other app except Live.
Anyone got any ideas?

i've seen this happen as well but only when switching applications back to Live. i'm using version 3 on osX.3.1 .

i think it's just Live reloading it's ram or cache or something like that. i doubt it's anything serious unless the sample is in use.

how often does it happen and in what situation did it happen last?

It does the same thing in Windows XP here when Live is the app with current focus. It immediately switches back online when in focus again and doesn't seem to cause any side effects because of this behaviour.

I am guessing that Live may be doing this to release/update the clip window as it may be being edited by an external editor. It appears purely a visual/update thing here, no side effects of any note or interruptions in Live itself.

How do I get the "offline" clips online?

Post by MrCarey » Wed Dec 03, 2003 11:19 pm

How do I get these "offline" clips online as far as Live is concerned. The media is not missing it's just not connected to Live for some reason. In Final Cut Pro this is called "Reconnecting Media". Is there an equivalent in Live?

Thanks
Carey

MrCarey,

they go online automatically as soon as you switch back to Live (making it the application in the foreground, that is...). I just wonder why Live behaves this way as all other apps (e.g. Logic) never do that. Sure, the programme might do that for the possibility that a sample is currently edited in a sound editor, but all other files could stay online then. I also seem to remember that this phenomenon hasn't always occurred - I did't see this in LIve 1.5 or 2 on my PC.

Maybe it depends on the soundcard one's using?
