bbc wrote: 54 mins: GOAL Ecuador 2-0 Costa Rica
Agustin Delgado takes advantage of some slack defending to drive into the box and drill the ball home at the near post. A fine strike by the former Southampton misfit but the defending left a lot to be desired.

51 mins: Ecuador are straight back on the attack and a neat move ends with an acrobatic effort from Agustin Delgado that is gathered by Jose Porras.

49 mins: Ronald Gomez has a shot on goal and it is a decent effort. The striker is just wide with a left-foot shot that whistles past the post.

46 mins: Costa Rica need a goal if they are to go into their final game against Poland with any hope of qualifying. Unfortunately they face an Ecuador side that at half-time had gone 258 World Cup finals minutes without conceding.

1503 BST: The second half gets under way with Ecuador making a change. Carlos Tenorio, who got his second goal of the World Cup to put them ahead, is replaced by Ivan Kaviedes.

"I'm sure the Costa Rica coach would have had a few words at half-time. They need to up the work-rate and up the pace if they are to change around this scoreline."
Dion Dublin, BBC Five Live Sport

HALF-TIME: Costa Rica's misery is ended - for 15 minutes at least. Ecuador have been mightily impressive, with their yellow shirts and fluent passing it has been just like watching Brazil at times. They lead 1-0 and it could easily have been more.

45 mins: Agustin Delgado wastes a glorious chance to double their lead. Edison Mendez puts in a perfect centre but the former Southampton striker fails to connect cleanly with a casual attempt on goal and Costa Rica are given a major let-off.

44 mins: Ecuador's Segundo Castillo is shown the yellow card for what could only be for something he said to the referee.

43 mins: Costa Rica get a first sight on goal as Douglas Sequeira finds soom room at the back post and he should really have done better than head into the side-netting.

41 mins: Ecuador nearly fluke a second goal as Edwin Tenorio's cross takes a deflection and almost catches out Costa Rica keeper Jose Porras.

39 mins: Confident is oozing through this Ecuador side and another fluent passing move sees Neicer Reasco, who is virtually running the show from left-back, almost put in Edison Mendez.

36 mins: Costa Rica forward Ronald Gomez gets a sniff at goal, but he takes a touch too many and the impressive Ivan Hurtado comfortably wipes out the danger.

34 mins: Ecuador's early success seems to have gone to Edison Mendez as he wastes a good chance to put a dangerous free-kick into the area. Instead he attempts an ambitious shot that is well over.

28 mins: Costa Rica coach Alexandre Guimaraes is not messing about as he sees his team heading for an early exit from the tournament. Danny Fonseca's afternoon is a brief one as the midfielder is replaced by forward Alvaro Saborio. Costa Rica have had just 38% of possession so far so perhaps a change is not so surprising.

28 mins: Costa Rica's Mauricio Solis is the second player to go into referee Coffi Codjia's notebook for a bodycheck on his opposite number Edison Mendez.

23 mins: Costa Rica finally get some possession but Harold Wallace is far from happy as an errant pass sails over his head and out for a throw-in.

21 mins: The Ticos cannot get the ball off Ecuador as they stroke the ball around. Costa Rica resort to fouling Agustin Delgado.

17 mins: This si impressive stuff by Ecuador, who are showing that the win over Poland was no fluke. The fans give them a good South American welcome with a Mexican wave that goes all the way round the arena.

14 mins: Costa Rica are all at sea and Ecuador are looking to take advantage. They are happy to shoot on sight but Agustin Delgado's effort is wide.

10 mins: Luis Marin gets a booking for a foul on the goalscorer Carlos Tenorio.

8 mins: GOAL Ecuador 1-0 Costa Rica
Ecuador score with their first real chance through Carlos Tenorio. Agustin Delgado had a shot blocked and fed Luis Valencia to send in a perfect cross for Tenorio to nod home.

"The game has started brightly and I reckon there is going to be goals." Dion Dublin, BBC Five Live Sport

3 mins: Ecuador start the game brightly and we get our first sight of Paulo Wanchope with some fancy footwork in the corner, but it comes to nothing.

1 min: Ecuador's record at altitude was said to be the reason behind their good record in qualifying and right from the kick off they are looking to hit the high ball to the front men.
