I've had mine for a few weeks now, and they're alright. I wouldn't wet your pants over it or anything, but it's still a decent machine. My biggest complaint with it is that it never seems to run as fast as it actually can... under both windows and mac osx. I run a lot of very high-CPU tasks, and I always keep a CPU meter in my dock.... it seems that the machine never really wants to put the petal to the metal. It's fast, sure, but it never really uses the full amount of CPU available to it (probably because of heating concerns).
All things considered, I'm happy with it, though... mine doesn't have the staining defect at all, but it does moo.

if you get a white one, be sure to put some kind of PDA protectant film on the places where you rest your wrists and on the trackpad, as they can accrue some skanky looking buildup from the oils on your hands.
I think all color computers get this. I have a black laptop, and a grey one.... and both are shiny from the skin oils soaking in.
M-Tech D900T laptop, 17" WSXGA+ wide-screen, Intel Pentium 4 3.4 GHz HT (600 series) 2 MB cache, 2048 RAM (Dual Channel DDR2 PC4200 533 MHz), Dual hard drives: 80 gig x 2 = 160 gig SATA 5400 rpm (RAID 0 config)

I got it.
The guy in the Apple Store here in Dublin was such an asshole. I asked him about the white macbook staining issue and he said he hadnt hearrd anything about it. Hahaha. What a dick. I told him if there was any sign of this Id be coming right back to him. He told me he had sold 50 macbooks in the last couple of weeks and nobody had any problems. ... so heres hoping...
ANYWAYS!
So far..
I love it.
It runs warm and makes the occassional moo noise, well its more like a sheep maaaa to me. Im from Ireland, I know these things.
Its a powerfull little bugger. Ive heard laptops that make a complete racket compared to this. So I think the people giving out about the moo should chill out and put on some music.
The screen is a double edged sword. When viewed straight on its beautifull but the viewing angle is narrow because of the glare but also because colours begin to appear different from an angle.
One weird issue Im having is the trash is not emptying. Odd. Ill reboot and see if it works then. Havent tested it with Live yet but will shorty.
But yeah, so far so good.

Just tested it with Live.
By the way its the base white model [1.8 core duo, 512ram]
Live performs better on the macbook than my old 1.8ghz g5 powermac but not to a hugely dramatic degree. I havent spent much time testing, just messing around.
I can get a fair few more reverbs in, which is nice.
The screen on the macbook really doesnt seem particulary small at all, even when using it with Live. That was a big concern of mine considering Im hoping to DJ with it.
I was running panther on my g5 and Im on tiger on the macbook. I get the impression tiger is far more ram intensive than panther. I think a trip to crucial is on the cards!
So far Im very impressed.
Just had a look at a dvd and it looks so so nice on the glossy screen, but only when you look at the screen from a reasonable angle! Youre not gonna get 3 people sitting around the laptop to enjoy the movie IMO.
The screen is so bright. It will kill your eyes in a long session if you dont put the brightness down a bit. A lot actually.
Let me reitterate something about the noise off this machine. Its MINIMAL.
It does make a bit of a light hum, but its nothing compared to many laptops Ive seen. Actually the only laptop Ive seen quieter than this is my brothers powerbook.
Personally this machine is a desktop replacement so it can hmm all it wants, it performs very well and only weighs 2.3kg.
The build quality is great. The plastic is grippy despite being so shiney. Its not gonna slip out of your hands.
I love the keyboard, although in studio Ill be using an external mouse and keyboard.
If I have any issues with it Ill report back but so far the macbook is fantastic.
One thing I will say is it could do with at least a gig of ram. I had to get the base level model from the shop because I was computerless and rather poor. Ill sort out more ram soon.
