I have a black 2.0ghz with 2.0 gb ram.

But I still feel my P4 3.0ghz pc is better, but its mostly to do with the fact that I cannot run many vst IMO.
especially Reaktor.

I cant be bothered forking out for xp to run boot camp as i would rather spend the money on other things.

But saying that It will be exelllent for upcoming live gigs. although for writing i will still use the Pc as i have invested too much money in it.

I'm about to buy a macbook -- should I order it from Apple with the RAM & Hard Drive all beefed out, or buy the basic version & add the RAM myself. I also have a 160 gig Maxtor external HD new in the box that I plan to use with it. Oh yeah does it matter if it's Black or White? Maybe I should ask Michael Jackson :P

If you have the money and the patience you should probably order from apple with the 80 gig HD and extra ram IMO.

Then again the hard drive can be replaced any time with a ghetto ass 120 gig 7200rpm SATA drive for about 150 dollars.

I got the base model because of my impetiousness and finance problems.

Yeah I have an external here myself, works a treat really, especially if its a mostly studio based laptop. Just make sure to have the shit you need most on the laptop.

Black or white?
150 extra for black? Youre pullin my leg arent you? The white is beautifull, and much cheaper.

They seem very nice, but i guess i'll wait till next year when all initial problems have been solved (and I get to save enough cash :D )

As for comparisons: about the staining issue, I have a 1.5 year old HP laptop, and it doesn't have that problem, so not all laptops degrade over time due to use, and it is VERY quiet i think...If/when I decide to buy a new laptop i expect those annoyances to be a think of the past...hopefully.

My 2 cents.
Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.

I got the "Mac-in-Black" w/ 1.25 (?) Gigs RAM.
I ahaven't really been able to use it yet, as I can not afford the full version of Live 5.2.
Now that I think about it, that is a shame! I have Logic Pro 7, Cubase SX3, ProTools M-Powered, but all I can think about is getting the full version Live!
I will have to wait a while, as I have just had my first of (2) back operaitons. I'm having to spend my money on doctor bills! Oh well ..... (sorry to get off topic!).
I love what the MacBook is capable of. I can't wait to let 'er rip!

Waterboy,

How is Logic 7.2 working on that ol' macbook? My primary interest in getting a Macbook is to be able to run Logic, even though the snobbish over on the Logic forum decry the small screen. I want the portability.

Just wondering,

you serious?

The screen is very high resolution and doesnt seem particulary small to me, and Im used to using a 19" LCD.
Either way the macbook can be used with an external monitor with the lid closed, so you have the best of both worlds. Im getting my mini dvi adapter in about 2 hours actually. chuffed.

Current lack of plugins is a concern though. Personally, and I know this is a contentious issue [from the replies I got in the wish list section] Im hoping Abes will vastly improve Simpler in Live 6, so it can be used more as a bread and butter subtractive synth. Either that or they introduce a handy litle subtractive synth, cm101 style. Or perhaps just give us a discount on the lovely Operator!

So far, so good, sir. Although, I must admit: I haven't really spread 'er "so-called" wings in a recording situation yet. The reason? I have had back surgery and am immobilized for the time being. But just messin' around at the house, it seems to be doing just fine! I am always excited to answer questions of interest with regards to that system. I was extremely pumped up when I heard of it's arrival! As for the boyz @ the LP7 site: don't fret!
You are your own person; therefore, able to make up your own mind! Don't believe the hype! It (the screen) may be smaller than that MacBook Pro, but only by a small amount (I should know, I had one of the 15" MBP's). I'll tell ya this: bang for the buck, the very small difference in real-estate doesn't bother me. \Let me know what you end up doin'!

Funny, the Macbook seems to take over the Macbook Pro...!!!
Maybe if they fix the graphic card i'd get one , although 15" to 13.3" is a bit small...

I agree it is a tad bit small. But I (personally) bought the MacBook so I could be mobile, and the smaller size makes more since for my needs. Believe it or not, there really isn't much difference between the 15 & 13" models .... the difference is quite small! (pun intended!)

:)

I didn't notice a dvi slot on the macbook pictures. How would you hook up your external screen? Does it send out to say 1680 X 1050? Does it do mirroring or additional screen?

Thanks,
