Hi Ryan,

the bug we are talking about has to do with the rendering not waiting for certain sample data to arrive from disk (as it should). It largely depends on the speed of your processor vs. the speed of your harddisk.
With a slow processor (or lot of fx in the track) and a fast harddisk you are less likely to run into problems than the other way round.

Maybe connecting a fast external harddisk helps. Maybe adding effects that only add significant processor load but insignificant changes to the sound help. I can't promise anything here.

What I do promise, though: 3.0.1 will help!

Roddi
please state the following information with *every* problem you have:
1. Exact version of Live
2. System: Processor, RAM
3. Operating System
4. Audio hardware
Thank You

Aha, hadn't heard the explanation like that before. I bet you are right on about the harddisk, as I am using a very fast external hardrive for my audio files--WD 120 gig, 7,200 RPM, 8 MB cache, 8.9 ms seek time. Even with lots of wave plugs and stuff in Live 3.0, still great rendering sucess. Looking forwared to that 3.1. Live rocks

for the HD its a ATA133 80GB 7200 rpm ... a good one ...

so I dont understand why I got glitches ...

i'm having a problem, both with playback and rendering. i haven't rendered much before so i don't have a lot of info to go on...

i'm not getting the clicks and pops people are talking about, but rather the very beginning of my song is heavily distorted, then the rest is OK. during playback when this happens, i just hit stop, then from there on out it will play OK. it's as if the first time playing the song it's messed up, then OK after that.

i've tried rendering this song with both 3.0 and 3.0.1 - same thing. i also recently installed bidule and have been using it in this set, not sure if that's related or not. also tried a number of things with the effects, turning them off at the start of the set, etc. same thing.

i finally just had to create some blank space at the beginning, render, then edit off the extra measures after the fact.

it's something particular to this set, (others are rendering OK) and i have other problems with it now too - wouldn't open in 3.0.1 anymore, so i had to open it in 3.0 and re-save...

Fixing pops and clicks on rendering

Post by Tonster » Wed Jan 21, 2004 8:18 pm

The problem can easily be fixed as follows:

create a track and add from 5 to 10 vst effects to it.

Mute this tracck.

Fixed!

The problem surfaces when your CPU speed is much faster than your HD speed.

Rawk on now
