Can anyone help me with this?
I have a piano sample with a nice aptmospheric fade in on it (in no particular time signature) before the first strong downbeat 1. The sample then continues for 4 bars.
I have found in v5 that there is no easy way to start the clip at the beginning of the fade in AND get live to respect the warp points so that warp point 1 really is on beat 1, 2 on 2 etc. By offsetting the start point to the beginning of the fade in, the clip plays from the start on the downbeat and consequently sounds horribly out of time. Alternatively, if I start the clip at warp marker 1, I miss the fade in.
In the end, I sorted this out in the arrange view.
I set the offset the clip start to the beginning of the fade in, then with quantize off, zoomed in massively and manually aligned the clip so that warp marker 1 (which you can see if you expand the track) lined up with the bar line.
Not only is this lots of hasstle, strangely, the CPU rockets upwards when it hits this offset clip.
Am I being stupid and is there a much easier way to do this?

I like the idea of adding some silence at the beginning before the fade in and then starting the clip at -1, hadn't thought of that.

hmm,
you should use the difference between 'grey' and 'green' warp markers. sorry, I don't know what colours yours are, mine are actually grey and orange. Anyway - you should know what I mean.
do this:
bring in the clip, it probably has 2 of the 'green' warp markers. delete the end one.
move the first (the remaining green marker) to beat one of the start of the rhythmic piano part, IE : where the loopable 'in time' bit is.
get hold of one of the 'grey' markers (most likely the one called '5')and set it to the end of the loop. notice that the pre-1 markers shuffle about.
now move the start marker to whatever marker you want the clip to come in on. So if you want a 2 bar of the fade in it would be -2.
obviously (as you say ) this lead in isn't in time, so you may want to warp it by double clicking the 'grey' -2 and make it a 'green' -2 and then shift it
