electribes? anyone ever use em?
im thinking about buying a set of electribes, at least the 3 cheaper ones at first. are they worth the buy? I'm really just getting tired of using my mouse to control soft synths...i dont have fun making music anymore, and I'd rather just get some hardware to break out of my writers block.

get some of the older ones like the er-1(analog drums) and the es-1(sampler) they are pretty cheap on ebay these days and they are loads of fun you won't regret it.
and grab a behringer bcr2000 to control your software so you can stop clicking on that mouse. if you figure out how to use mackie emulation you can do fantastic stuff with it.

i own the first version of the ES-1. you'll hear lots of talk mocking its sampler quality, but its actually a pretty cool machine. the sample quality, i find, just gives it a very lofi, dirty, warm sound.
its nice to use, not as a serious SAMPLE MACHINE! -but as a nice little intrument with very unique qualities.
I often use it so make crazy little loops in realtime and then re-sample IT in to ableton.
ER-1 -have never owned one, but played one. pretty much same opinion as the es-1. very cool sounding. "phat" sounds etc. . .very easy to use/program. but i'd probably use it to "accent" or add odd sound variations to existing songs/patterns.
electribes would make a good spice. but not a full meal.
although, i've not use any of the others [or any of the newer versions. .etc]

I'd go get this actually
http://cgi.ebay.com/Korg-ER1MKII-Electr ... dZViewItem
it's got a buy now price of 178 which is a good deal, and I looked it up it's exactly the same as the er1 with some added fm type features.
my only advice is to avoid the eA1 at all costs, it's that dump analog synth one and I can't stand the sound of it. but all the others are lots of fun.

or this, buy now of 150. though I'd prefer 125 or so but it's still a good deal.
you'll get an extremely microtonic type sound from it imho though it doesn't have the same distortion and filtering as microtonic, but it sounds great anyway.

he claims all of the music was made using only those but i seems like I'm hearing a few other drum sounds, I could be wrong though, but it sounds like he sequenced these with something external and then added a few other sounds in the process.

click the link on the bottom of his page takes you to the next page with his music, it's kinda boring actually but it shows you a bit of the quality of sound you can get from them, all the drums are er1 and maybe a few of the synth sounds, most of the synths are the ea1
but you can also get a little more far out with them too, and don't forget you can record your loops into ableton and totally f*** them up.
this is all making me want to buy mine again, I sold my er1 like 2 years ago

I have the EMX too, and I really like it. I actually is a pretty cool virtual analog synth with a step seqencer, drum samples and an arpeggiator thrown in.
It uses the same basic synth engine as the new Radias, although the Radias is far more advanced of course. The EMX synth part has very limited modulation routing options though, and that can drive you a little crazy sometimes.

maybe i should save up for something a bit more adaptable, maybe a monomachine?

dunno, arent there any demos on his site ?Danny Futuro wrote:where can i listen to this?
I recommend buying it, its a great album imo.
i dont agree with johnisfaster, I dont have any doubts - I believe its made with just his electribes. He's a pro man, its released on the rephlex label - chances are he is good at what he does. He's not some randomer making audacious claims...
its an excellent advertisement for the elctribes too, they certainly have a beautifully lo-fi quality about them on this record

I enjoyed the MX but then after sometime you hit its limits, I like the UI specially wicked arp/touch pad combo, to trancend the limitationsI experimented with it to drive analog synth module and jomox with great results. Since i need compact sequencer for stage this is the best out there with usable lenght of patterns. I ordered ESX to keep the nice UI but upgrade the sounds to my liking, additionally to ext modules.
If you want just to have fun, specially live on stage ESX and EMX are unbeatable, if you cant enjoy them then maybe you don enjoy music, these are ultimate musicians toys, specially if you like improvising
