Can we get an "AMEN!" on Live's GUI?

Post by nz » Wed Dec 10, 2003 2:44 pm

I know it has been said before, but the user interface in Live is just spectacular. It makes work go so easy and fast. I absolutely LOVE how you can zoom in and out with a pull of the mouse. This feature alone is basically worth the price of admission. Since switching over entirely to Live, I have realized that tracking in a program like Pro Tools just feels clunky and slow (and I even have a HUI). Even Reason (which I love and use just as much) isn't as streamlined and efficient.

Great job!

Praise the Lord! I pretty much abandoned Logic altogether after being on Live since version 1.0. It's a dream come true.

I agree that Live is as beautiful to look at as it is to play with, but don't you miss the ability to run VSTi's when abandoning Logic?

Brooklyn in tha house! HaHa. I used to miss it but now we have Plogue Bidule so I can use all the VSTis I want right inside Live. Got any links or any way to hear your tunes? I like checking out with local Live musos. adios.

Don't leave me hangin' brotha man! Wass' this Bidule stuff you're talking about? I'm considering popping $700 on Logic for sole purpose of using VSTi's (I tried Reaktor Session and just about choked on my spliff!)!!!!
I just found out about Tracktion from another thread, now this Plogue thingy, what is it and how does it let you use VSTi;s in Live???

peace!

See the other thread about which is a prefered sequencer for more about why I want to try Logic despite being a ProTools devotee for the past 3 years. Oh, and no, I don't have any music online anymore until I get a new webhost. I live in W-burg but don't play out much, once in a while with a friend of mine in a coffee shop with our laptops.

Hello

Yes, you can use the audio output of VSTIs in Live.

Get it here: http://www.plogue.com/bidule/
see: http://www.mts.net/~mathers/q1_rewire.html
this is from: http://www.bidule-faq.tk/

Search for bidule in the forum.

Sincerely
Karl

Check the links in this thread for PLogue info. I've been a Logic user since version 2 and I've switched to Live for 99.9% of my work and haven't looked back. It's just too damn fast to bother with anything else. Yo, do you guys usually "jam" at Verb on Bedford? If so, I'd love to pop in and check it out. And I've got a few interesting things cookin on my own and with a few locals. Let me know if yer interested. I'm right on the other side of McCarren Park.

Reason?

Post by nz » Thu Dec 11, 2003 2:45 pm

In Plogue, I know that I can hear and record outputs of VSTi instruments in Live (which is great!), but can I simutaneously record the MIDI into Reason?

I am not a keyboard player and I need to sequence everything for which I use Reason. Can Reason record MIDI events from VSTi's via Plogue?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Duh, Reason has no MIDI outs. Forget I ever asked that...

IIRC (from my tests) Reason DOES have MIDI Outs when running as a ReWire Slave, but only sends CCs to the host following user movement of sliders/knobs (so that the host can record and playback this live automation)

But not notes, sadly.
