QUICK questions about the BCR2000 ...

Post by Krugger » Wed Jun 21, 2006 12:39 pm

Hi, I got 2 quick questions about the BCR2000, if anyone could post that'd be great, thanks

1) Those knobs, do they click while you turn them (i.e, each click activates lights up an extra LCD until they all light up) or is it smooth with no clicks?

2) On 'normal' MIDI mode (not Mackie Emulation), do I get a choice of relative and absolute cc with Ableton or just absolute?

Thanks
Kr.

OK, 1 more question pls RE:Mackie Emulation

Someone once posted the notes to program on a normal MIDI controller so that a button (for example) can fire a Mackie command (like: Cursor Up)

Hence, no need to put the controller into Mackie Emulation mode completely, instead just programming a few buttons/knobs for specific commands.

What I'm trying to do is: Leave the BCR2000 as it is (normal midi controller) and map to Ableton bits such as volume, EQ3/4, effects, pitch, cue volume, volume and so on.

But also: Program 4 of the top row buttons (as a cross shape) for Up, Down, Left & Right cursor keys in Mackie so that I can use them to navigate the grid. This will allow me to view any clip's waveform without having to fire it.

Is it possible to use the editor to make the buttons fire specific notes to Ableton?

This is the post in question (from Machinate)

Thanks

I actually went ahead and downloaded the JAVA editor to check out its features and did find out that u can assign a button to Note mode etc.

Didn't know you could just do it directly on the BCR's hardware. That's even better.

Excellent, thanks for the reply!

Mike - With some help from Machinete I was able to upload/download presets using MIDI OX. F-ing sweet, I could finally check out Mackie mode (not that impressed) and backup my presets.

Machinete's hosting the files. Basically open MIDI OX, send a preset then send a small file that sends a save command. There are files called something like save1.sysex, save2.sysex, etc. Send save1.sysex to save preset 1, send save2.sysex to save preset 2, etc.

Let me know, I'll write out the steps for you when I get home tonight.

But yeah, it's an easy device to edit by hand, love that box!!! If I lost mine I'd buy another one immediately.

I was looking at trying to do the same thing and couldn't find out how to do it. At moment, I use an encoder (knob) to move up and down scenes (rows) and have buttons on the BCR mapped to the individual tracks' 'play' button (which you see at the bottom of the track in MIDI map mode). This works for firing the clip, but not for viewing the waveform.
I think you might need another program to do that - Bomes MIDI Translator for PC or MIDIStroke or ControlAid for Mac. I still haven't got around to figuring it out.

i use sysex librain (mac) to up/down load presets..but thanks

i might have some presets with the fader group/system buttons disabled, as well as "store" presets to send to the bcr to save once the save button has been over written
(the store files are iffy..they work for certain presets but not for others)
(store buttons are here)
now i use a hybrid mackie mode..with some buttons assigned with mackie emulation(pencil/browser/bta/navigation/transport/volume), and the rest to use as i need

From a different post,

I use two things: MIDIMonitor (http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/) and MIDIStroke (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/a ... troke.html).

MIDIStroke allows you to convert any incoming MIDI data into any keystroke. For example, I have a MIDI Keyboard controller with four keys assigned to up,down, left, right on the keyboard. so when I am in session view and playing live i can move around using the keyboard notes.

I use MIDIMonitor to see the MIDI channel and CC data and plug that into MIDIStroke.

The beauty about not using MIDI >> Keystrokes is that Mackie Mode cursor keys automatically puts the focus on the clips grid - something the cursor keys (even on normal keyboard) don't do, u have to select the grid slots first.
(unless you also fire TAB-TAB (twice basically) - it switches to Arrange view then back to Session view - See when Session view is switched back, it ALWAYS puts the focus on the clip slots! I think ALT-UP-UP also does this, not tried this one yet)

However, Mike (Holiday) just mentions he's using his controller in hybrid mode and that's good news for me cause it's exactly what I wanna do
