You'll need a firewire ext. box, no card slot on the macbook.

Stay away from USB & other hyundai/kia-class stuff like M-Audio. The lexus would be the RME fireface 400, the bentley would be Metric Halo.

if you're on a budget you could use a USB device (iMic etc), but best only to use it for monitoring via headphones, merge the two sets of stereo outputs (USB and built in) via Aggregated Devices in Audio/Midi setup, and use the internal as your main output..

I have a M-Audio AudioPhile FW soundcard and it has worked great but I would love to know more about the better options out there, how much would this 'Bentley' card cost and how much better is it?

I use the Lexus, not the Bentley. I'm no man of means, not yet at least.

I'm on the Multiface II, which is RME's cousin to the Fireface. Sounds better than great and no problems ever. Search the forum for the MH stuff, everybody raves that has spent the cash.

Get a Presonus Firebox + a macbook.

That would seem perfect for DJing to me....

And yeah, how long will it take for people to stop repeating the mantra "don't get a mac, they're too expensive".... it's just annoying. In Australia, a macbook is actually priced the same compared dell laptops of the same spec/config. Go figure.

actually, I read something (link from here??) the other day where comparatively the macbooks are cheaper to the "light thin" dell eqivalents

but hell, you cant blame him for making that comment, it's not like Apple havent been too expensive and way behind on laptops for years - and not everyone who's not in the market would know they've actually finally sorted that out!

These times in computing are definitely all about Apple though - they have a serious advantage now they've caught up and can run any OS on them

anyway...hijack, sorry...as for the question - dont they have spdif out?
