But I have gotten laid by enough random women that I have met on there to justify keeping an account.

Here's an experiment I'm going to try soon... I'm going to make a profile and my name will be "DJ __insert name here__". I will post some lost trance mixes that I will randomly find on the internet and say they are mine. Then I will put pictures of my self sitting on the "1's and 2's" with my hand cupped over one earphone, with the other earphone behind my ear, other hand on a mixer knob. Preferably the picture will be in a dark room with neon lights. There will be 16 year old girls standing around the decks watching in amazement with the "how does he make that sound with that knob" look on their face. More pictures of mingling and shit with a corona or zima bottle in my hand. If possible, a picture with me standing close to a well known dj acting like it's nothing. I will send friends request to everybody and their mom. I will have my friends put fake comments on my page that say shit like "damn dude, that was a crazy after party with those chicks the other night" and "dude, get at me when you finish that mix"...

Then I will let the befriending of cute local chicks commence, and sex will follow.

That is the plan. And afterwards I will tell them that I am not a DJ, and just for spite I will lie to perpetuate the patheticness of the situation by telling them I live in my mothers basement, have no job and things like that.

I'm willing to bet this would work.
That's the best plan I've heard heard since plan 9 from outer space! and I'm willing to bet ed wood didn't even write yours...

myspace, here I come...

IMO, myspace is just another piece of technology, like online media distribution and sales.

Those smart enough will figure out how to benefit from it, while the others will just bitch.

louis' statement seems like satire to me. could it be he's hinting that myspace.com is a glorified meat-market for the sleazeballs he imitated ?
or maybe its just satire for the sake of it.....?

Hmmm... you're probably right. I can't imagine anyone actually doing that for real!

It probably WOULD work, though...

That doesn't work - I have 5 mypsace accounts

1 for me as a dj / dance music producer

2 for each dog I own

1 for me as me - just friends (real friends I actually know)

1 for all the crappy music I make - it's a funny page

I can honestly say it's my real music page that gets all the spam, random hos and shit friend request

my personal pages get no love really

I think Hambone1 has some good points and thanks Shiva for posting the truth

Yes myspace will crumble under it's own weight, that's a given but it's oh so much fun

You put the word producer or dj and your gold, you said it yourself- random ho's and shit friends request. Chicks can look at good looking guys all day long on there, but when you unveil the dj or producer (doesn't matter, the the words are interchangable to most people who don't have a clue) they jump on the wagon.

Nah Mate - for a couple weeks there my headline was "You said I'm ugly and flat." and I just recently put the DJ in front of my name

I think the reason i get so much crap is because I have close to 1000 friends - I rarely if ever send out friend request - it's only if a big dj joins myspace or I like your music

Once you hit like 500 + friends you start seeing a lot more garbage, spam etc

I rarely add females unless there's something genuine about them, I was on a "approve everyone" trip for a minute but lately I'm checking more and more profiles out first especially if your photo looks kind of suspicious - i.e. if you're a band - but you can tell who's for real just from a picture - at least I can - for example some english guy in his studio with a 303 on display (approve - don't even have to investigate)

my other pages have fewer than 50 people - or no more than 50 people

The spam is so far in between it's worth it - I send out bulletins asking close to 1000 people to check out my new jams or listen to a mix or whatever - the more people in your network the better your chances of something (anything) happening...feel me?

Add the chicks, they bring in the guys who are crusing all the chicks pages.

Sooner or later they get sick of the chicks and notice your advert for
music... They stop by listen, then go have a smoko break.

Post a big advert on their page and watch their boyfriends (and girlfriends)
come rolling in.

'By displaying or publishing ("posting") any Content on or through the MySpace Services, you hereby grant to MySpace.com a limited license to use, modify, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce, blah blah blah, etc etc."
I understand the agreement & am happy that it's all above board....but what does "modify" mean in this context? Any thoughts?

Having a thousand friends does help... but I'm still convinced girls just throw themselves at dj's. I have to delete corney nine inch nails lyrics (usually get "I want to fuck you like an animal" quoted). I guess alot of these chicks think that cause I produce industrial and dnb, that putting played out nin lyrics on my page would please me... well it does to the extent that it's flattering (even though half of them are illegal), but I get alot of shit about it from the girls in the real world. What annoys me most is chicks on myspace who think I'm a DJ. It's funny cause some of them get put off when I explain to them that I don't play other peoples music, and that I pretty much spend the majority of my time screwing with computers, keyboards and various other nerd shit. I can almost see the "OMG- he doesn't spin?" look on their face on the other side of the screen. Then they ask if i play keys live... explaining that I don't know how to really play keys and that I use them for synthesis, and that most of everything gets sequenced doesn't really make me look to much more exciting either. They can't handle the idea that there is a guy who makes the music that is on the record that the dj is playing... so then I just give up and think yeah- sure you can think I'm a DJ... I don't care, just come over here and let me...

Well, I guess it's not myspace's fault that some people are stupid, but it sure does make one hell of a catalyst for breeding more stupid people.

But I have to admit, I have hooked up with some producers that otherwise would have been impossible to work with or talk to, and have gotten hooked up with some sweet gigs that otherwise would have been out of reach. Shit, I traveled across america for a year with my tattoo artist, and crashed at girls houses that we had met on there... all they wanted was free ink, and most of the time they weren't expecting anything in return. Everybody is a myspace junkie these days... it's going to be the matrix one day

To me all that means is "we are big, we have to protect ourselves"

When you're tiny u can get away with a lil disclaimer or nothing at all, shit
in a lot of adult affiliate programs the terms are generally 10 points in
plain english. However when things get big, you have lawyers on retainers,
may as well get them doing something, and god knows they'd be shitting
bricks if they foundout u had something up without rigid terms of service.

Fer sure. It seems too general a term to use for me to be entirely comfortable with.
Does it mean modify the actual music...in a remix or sampling sense...or change the title and/or lyrics...or what?

I'd say it means "anything that u might be annoyed by and sue us for".

Here it's easy to focus on the music, but this is about "content".

Lets say I run a MySpace layout provider and are making good money from
it. MySpace changes their layout, all my stylesheets stop working and I
can't get them working again, my business is dead.... It's MySpaces
fault.... I sue.... oh but wait... They said they have the right to change
anything at anytime.

ya,..theres lots of reasons myspace is rubbish. Apparently they own the copyright to any tunes you host, even if you delete them.

anything rupert is involved with is most definatly evil, if it was once good, it is bad once his name is associated.

Sounds like mp3.com all over again to me.
Personally I've stayed away from the myspace thing.
