selectable startup templates

Post by Nymbus » Mon Jul 03, 2006 7:57 pm

I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but the ability to save more than one start up template would be nice. Then, before LIVE loads completely, a dialogue box could prompt you to select the desired template.

It would be nice to have at least one other template available. For example, one could be used to produce and the other to DJ.

Yes
I would prefer the option to be available when you choose new from the file menu.
A small window with saved templates Empty, Mastering, Default etc could give you the choice and then load. And an entry to save templates in the file menu.
So a default template loads up when Live is first loaded as normal ...
And if I need to I can change it to another from the file menu.

just make a map on your hd (place this map on your desktop) and make templates.. then start a new project from one of them

Yes templates like all other programs made in the last 20 years, using presaved templates does not promt you for a new name when you hit save for the first time and it's guaranteed you overwrite your template sooner or later.

LOL, that's what got me thinking about the selectable startup templates in the first place.

It would be alot nicer if this was just added to live ...
I like the way cubase implements templates.
So ableton should keep it simple:

File New -> A small box containing default templates and any you have added.
Select one -> Press Ok/Return and it loads up
If you need to save a template to this menu,
File -> Save As Template.

And obviously this would not interfere at all with the current system of having a default template set in preferences appear when you load live.

Sweet.

On a PC right click your 'template' file and check the box marked read only

now you wont overwrite it.
