What do you guys think of what's happening right now in Somolia? If you think colonization was bad (a long time ago), look at what the Islamo-fascists have been up to while the warlords created a vacuum and the UN looked the other way?
I am referring the the general melee cause by the new Islamic "regime" there and the "shutting down" of a movie theatre while showing a world cup game where teens attended just last week. the Theatre owner was shot and killed, as well as a teenage girl.
From CNN:
MOGADISHU, Somalia (AP) -- Radical Islamic militia fighters in central Somalia shot and killed two people at the screening of a banned World Cup soccer broadcast while dispersing the crowd of teenagers watching it, an independent radio station reported Wednesday.
The Islamic fighters, who have banned such entertainment, opened fire after the teenagers defied their orders to leave the cinema that was screening the Germany-Italy match, Shabelle Radio reported. It said the dead were a girl and the cinema owner.
Islamic fighters who wrested control of the Somali capital from warlords in June forbade movies and television entertainment in line with their strict interpretation of Islam. The Supreme Islamic Courts Council, originally called the Islamic Courts Union, has expanded its control to other parts of southern Somalia.
Its leader, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys, has spent the past weeks in central Somalia recruiting fighters in his clan's native region.
If I were a betting man, I'd bet that the terrified Somali's woulden't mind a bit of "American intervention" right now to keep these pigs from raping their women and shooting their children. The U.N. failed to keep the other fighting at bay; they ain't gonna stop the islamists, either.
So I ask an open and honest question of you all: What should be done?

Damn, I thought Pee-Wee Herman getting caught jackin' it on a gay cinema was bad
but - that's not funny
Yeah, the Genocide in Africa is really really weak - I don't care about much other than myself but when I hear about thousands of innocent people especially children being mass murdered it actually strikes a nerve
and why can't we (America) lend a hand is beyond me...probably because Africa (Somalia) has nothing to offer and they are not a threat to us - just to themselves
speaking of threats - North Korea, thank you very much - scary...the Dem's have been talking about North Korea for years and what did we do - try to talk to them? Ha!
We all saw the Movie Team America - I swear those guys are always 2 steps ahead of of even our government
anywayz - it's all bad but I wish the US would get involved in Africa

I agree. Yes; if for no other reason than to wipe out the infection that is spread by islamists. You could say we WERE involved, since we're part of the UN and the security council, but you see what good that has done.
My jury is still out on North Korea, and the repubs we'rent the only ones creating a culture of appeasement. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that there would be a TREMENDOUS loss of life in a conventional war with NK. Unfortunately, in many ways, the ball is in their court.
Team America was brilliant.
The "speech" at the end put it all into perspective. (: Those guys NEVER cease to produce brilliant sattire. It's still the most relevant show on television. Did you hear that the scientology episode is up for some sort of an award?

If the North Koreans had oil, Bush would be licking Kim Jong-il's kimchi balls.djadonis206 wrote:They won a peabody award as well...
I think you're right about North Korea - it would be ugly, almost another world war - curious who are North Korea's Allies? I don't know

since we're part of the UN and the security council
Unfortunately, the UN has been proven over many years to be completely unwilling to enforce it's own resolutions.
Somalia, Rwanda, and Iraq are all examples.
They don't really have any allies, in the conventional sense.... China and Russia would be the closest thing they have to allies.curious who are North Korea's Allies? I don't know

Just a scarey thought I'd throw out there - what if the world had to pick sides all of a sudden say North Korea and America went head to head?
I just the little Island of Ibiza and Carl Cox's night at space isnt' interupted
I bet some of you can remember where you were when we dropped the first bombs on Iraq - if you're in the dance music scene it's a easy question
so, where you?
ok times up, Me and my girlfriend were in the hotel lobby coming back from the AM Only / Spundae party at the Delano in Miami when we saw the headlines - scarey
I really don't want to be kickiing it in Ibiza when I read the headlines "North Korea strikes first!"

The World Wide Web as in the http protocol and html files, which is arguably as important to what we're doing as the TCP/IP protocol is, was invented by a Londoner. The language that this forum is written in, PHP, was invented by a Dane and is an open source project contributed to by people from around the globe, as is the Apache web server that the forum software is most likely running on, not to mention the Linux operating system which that Apache server is most likely running on, which was invented and begotten by a Swedish-speaking Finn.jonathono2000 wrote:*If you are using this forum you are using the internet which is American
Also, the internet would not have come about if it wasn't for the research done by American universities *outside* the reach of American capitalism and commercial interests, the impact of which is what we're most often criticising. The internet in many ways did not come about because of the America that I dislike, but inspite of it.
And that is without even mentioning the origins of the product that this forum was started to discuss...

Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

and of course, the saying I quoted before still applies to you (and a lot of us here, including me):stinky wrote:and, the opposite may be your opinion. Nowhere did i state those as fact. I've just chosen to discredited alot of the 'opinions' that you all have and choose to regard as fact.
take that into account as you weigh the opinions and perspectives of others.the greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance - it is the illusion of knowledge.

arpa net was funded by the american government. The technologies that were invented to support the protocols on the internet were also invented by americans (packet switching, etc.)noisetonepause wrote:The World Wide Web as in the http protocol and html files, which is arguably as important to what we're doing as the TCP/IP protocol is, was invented by a Londoner. I'm not saying that the growth and maturation of the internet and secondarily, the web, weren't part of the process outcome we see today by international support/science/technologies, but the internet was invented in the U.S.
for instance:
http://www.icann.org/biog/cerf.htm
The first connections were made between colleges here in the U.S.
