And I've got my birthday coming up soon, and we're having a big party at my new house. My buddies are bringing vinyl, and I'll be on Ableton... it will be fun to break-in the Xone 3D with Live 6.

I just wanted to say that I appreciate being able to converse, discuss, and argue points here. I know it gets heated and all that, but we will never get anywhere if we don't at least try to talk and communicate.

So, for that, I just wanted to say thanks to Stinky et al. for having the courage to speak your convictions (even if I, or others, do disagree with a lot of it).

OH BTW.. just wanted to plug this book....

I'm not sure how many of you are fans of Jon Stewart, but I think reading his book America - A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction should be mandatory for everyone in the world. It's not a right-wing bash fest, so don't get your dander up... he mostly berates the media, which he's a part of.. but it's funny as shit... cheers.

I grew up in Washington, DC. I'm Republican, but registered Democrat (haha... think about that one for a minute, if you don't get it right away)

I do not like John Stewart.

He is completely biased, and frequently dishonest.

A perfect example was when he allowed Howard Dean to lie about President Bush, without offering a correction.

The night following Bush's television address where he framed his plans to move National Guard to the border, and to provide a path to citizenship for the illegals already here.... Howard Dean was on the Daily Show and said:

Dean: "Here's the big difference between us (the Democrats) and the right-wing bill that passed the House with the President's support: This is a President who can't find a six-foot-four Saudi terrorist. How's he gonna find 12 million undocumented people and send them all back across the border? That's what he wants to do."

This is absolutely absurd. President Bush went on television and said the EXACT opposite. Bush is being criticized by Republicans because he is NOT sending all the illegals back home. The term being used to criticize Bush is "AMNESTY".

Here is what Bush really said:

Bush: "It is neither wise, nor realistic to round up millions of people, many with deep roots in the United States, and send them across the border. There is a rational middle ground ..."

John Stewart just sits there nodding, while Dean makes this blatantly untrue claim.

Now.... the problem with this is.... for a lot of people (particularly on this forum, I would feel safe to assume), The Daily Show is the only "news" they get. Unfortunately, it is not news at all. But for many who watch it, they consider in a much more serious light than any real news media.... and that is scary.

I agree the Jon Stewart is entertainment first and foremost. However, I hope you can agree that this administration doesn't make him work very hard to be all that funny. The most you could say about Clinton was that he fucked a fat chick and did some property scams. For which the Republicans had him impeached. How many lies, deceptions, criminal acts, and deaths is this administration responsible for, and for which they have gone completely unscathed and unanswered? Moreover, why is it that EVERYONE on the planet hates us? Is it a clear case of "they're all crazy, because we're the only sane ones!" ?

I know I'm not gonna change your mind, but I would just like to plant one small seed of questionability in your head. Just question one or two things that you see this administration do. There are many to pick from...I'll get you started:
1. Gay bashing.
2. Deficit
3. Oil
4. Shooting people in the face and having them apologize to you
5. Election fraud
6. Illegal wars
7. Immigration

One more thing...why is it that as democrats, we're totally fine with poking at our own politicians, but republicans won't question theirs? I know the shortcomings that Clinton, Gore, Dean, Kerry had, and I had no problems owning up to them. Why is it that republicans feel like Bush is the second coming?

Clinton lied, under oath... a criminal offence. This is documented fact.
In addition, there are numerous credible claims against him for sexual harrassment, which are only made more believable by the Monica Lewinsky scandal. I also find it interesing that the person who was to testify against the Clintons in the Whitewater case "committed suicide" shortly before trial. He increased taxes to new highs, and led us into a recession, following the dot-com collapse. He weakened our military and intelligence agencies. I also believe the claims that Clinton had the chance to get Bin Laden, and let him go.

I don't know, how many? Do you know? I am aware there are many people who think that Bush lied about a number of issues. Where I differ is in reading the so-called proof. Read back to where Stinky was quoting White House documents, and my replies... for an example. I do not see where Bush told the American people that "Saddam planned 9/11." I don't see it, because he never said it.

I do not think Bush is the second coming. In some areas, I think he is too liberal. He is spending money out the yinyang, which is hardly conservative. He won't secure the borders. He wants to grant amnesty to illegals. At the same time, he is too conservative for me on some issues. I do not believe in God. I am Pro-Choice. I am in support of us using all technology available to improve medicine.... so stem cell research, cloning, anything that helps us to cure people I am for.

My point in this whole thread has not been that Bush is the greatest president ever. Not what I was saying at all.

My point is that many of his opponents are simply dishonest, or misinformed about the arguments. (Just like people saying, "He said Saddam planned 9/11")

So maybe the real question you should ask is.... why is it that anyone who corrects the record on Bush is said to be defending him as "The Second Coming?"
