psilocybin's mystical properties scientifically confirmed
"Psilocybin, the active ingredient of "magic mushrooms," expands the mind. After a thousand years of use, that's now scientifically official."
DUH, I could've told them that. Wish I would've known about this study, I'll bet they got the good shit!

So, when I was 18-years-old I was already one of the most "expanded brain" man of the worlderr_fatale wrote:"Psilocybin, the active ingredient of "magic mushrooms," expands the mind. After a thousand years of use, that's now scientifically official."

Seriously, I knew a LOT of people crashed after a bad trip, a LOT of "no-return people". I think this article is a bit dangerous..

I'm not sure about dangerous (but then I guess we've all had our own experiences with them). They do certainly need to be treated with respect as they can really overwhelm you if you're a 'beginner' or the dose is too strong. However, it is positive news that this type of research is being undertaken and even better that it is not vilifying psilocybin as some sort of 'evil intoxicant'.

Ya man, as stated time and time and time and time and time again....Bong Sau wrote:I'm not sure about dangerous (but then I guess we've all had our own experiences with them). The 3 S`s first!!!
Set, Setting, Self!!!
Yeah, the results aren't a surprise to anyone that's done it, but good to hear they are exploring it's uses more scientifically.

Well I've got one hell of an expanded mind this summer then!
Whether that's good or bad for you, I think everyone has to judge for themselves. All of our brains come in slightly different builds and chemical make-ups, and what's good/bad for one may not be for another.
I don't get harsh negative effects from shrooms, but some can trip out. Likewise I know some folk who can do coke like its their job and stay normal. Me, I do a line and I'm depressed the next two days. And I don't really get depressed otherwise.
So I think any talk of how beneficial or dangerous a drug is, must be dependent on the individual. Prescription or otherwise. People forget this. Some people simply should not take certain drugs.

P.S. I love zoom zooms!

a weak mind/will will destroy itself with anything. Like food. Some people can eat healthily, others overeat and succumb to obesity and the myraid of health problems (physical, mental, emotional, social) that arise from it.
Some have healthy sex lives, others do not (i do not think i need to elaborate on this other than to say that masturbation once a week can be a healthy stress reduction program, but 8 times a day will make you crazy and possibly blind) etc etc etc....even music....i know people that sit around making/listening to music all day and can't hold a job down and take care of themselves (i.e. pay bill, rent, buy food.....)
same goes with hallucinogens, but an important factor is definitely the quality/purity of the substance, as well as the environment/circumstances in which it is taken, but ultimately it is the will and mental strength of the individual that is the key factor to answering a question of whether or not psylocibin is beneficial to the human psyche.
I DO believe this is relevant on this board as I personally love tripping out and making beats on Live and fukkin with my synths. Good Times indeed.

Oh well then the week willed and easily led - tough it's your own fault if you lose it. Only the strong survive !a weak mind/will will destroy itself with anything. Like food. Are you reincarnated from the 1930's third reich Herr_fatale ? An outlook that looks down on the vulnerable.
Seriously keep expanding your mind mate till your reach the compassionate plato and then re-apraise your Higher than though stance.

I would say a healthy and strong mentality does neither want to or need to feed on drugs at all.err_fatale wrote:it is the will and mental strength of the individual that is the key factor to answering a question of whether or not psylocibin is beneficial to the human psyche.

Have you tried psychedelics?
Drugs are powerful tools. They've allowed us to do all sorts of things that were previously unimaginable. How about surgery? Would it be healthy and strong to refuse surgery because of an objection to general anethsesia?? If psycedelics turn out to have use to stop a disease like alcoholism or opiate addiction would it be weak to use them as a treatment?
Pshcedelics may prove to have beneficial uses if researchers are allowed to continue their study. I think this study shows a lot of promise. After more than 40 years of demonization scientists are starting to look into these things again.
aside from that, note that 1/3rd of the people in the study reported that their experience with psylocybin (sp?) was the most profound in their life! The *most* profound! Others reported the experience ranked in the top 5 most profound experiences in their life.
Of course, 30% of the study had pretty scary experiences.
But look, don't confuse psychedelics with something like heroin, cocaine or alcohol. It's a lot harder to really abuse psychedelics, they are *not* addictive, and the majority of psychedelic users claim a great psychological or spiritual benefit. Why the blanket judgement of it's users as somehow weak or unhealthy?

Only asinine when you Dubbyah learn that Conny has been there and back with substances. Conny's led some interesting discussions here on turning the corner to living a cleaner life.dubbyah wrote:conny wrote:I would say a healthy and strong mentality does neither want to or need to feed on drugs at all.err_fatale wrote:it is the will and mental strength of the individual that is the key factor to answering a question of whether or not psylocibin is beneficial to the human psyche.

Play nice.
And I disagree with Conny's statement.
it is an incredibly asinine statement, i don't care if conny has thumbprinted lsd, smoked salvia, and injected DMT all at the same time.DeadlyKungFu wrote:Only asinine when you Dubbyah learn that Conny has been there and back with substances.
