question about firewire800 and mac book pro

Post by Pete_m » Wed Jul 12, 2006 3:32 am

mac book pro's have 1 firewire 800 plus 1 firewire 400 if im correct.

if i was to use a firewire HDD, and a firewire soundcard.. what would be the best way to connect them.. hard disk in 800, and sound card in 400 or visa versa?

this was the reason i was looking at powerbooks, because of the card bus, its possible to stick a firewire 800 adapter card in there.. follow? or do the dual core mac book's just kick ass so much that i shouldnt care about only having one firewire800?

yes, bit of a n00b question. call it a blonde moment 8)

MBP 15" has only got 400. MBP 17" has got 400 and 800.

PB has got 400 and 800 (but they share the same bus, think it's the same on MBP 17".

PB has got a PCMCIA (or whatever they're called) slot.

Both MBP have got the new PC Express (or whatever it's called - look it up!) slots.

And I'm blonde.

sound card on 800. (bandwidth for channels. but it is actually pretty hard to hit 400's ceiling with one interface)

although, if they are both 400 devices, it doesnt matter in theory.
