What kind of new tools would you be happy with?

I personally think that there are some nice new features in Live 6, but I use it for both studio and live performances.

I suppose a decent EQ3 would have been nice...

maybe, true - a few details might not be in yet.

however we both know they are very conservative about feature additions and if they're not in there now, might be slim chance they will make it to the full version

and at that point its usually another year to the next version if theres any chance of the feature making it - because interim additions are rare or non existant

SO:

IF we dont see any way to utilize dual-waveform clip views this is pretty sad news for DJs.

Because quick access to mutliple clips is one thing that will put Live to the next level verses all other methods. imo

THREAD: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38280

Personally Im really happy with what ive been reading so far but if theres any chance for MULTIPLE WAVEFORM CLIP JUGGLING - and other detail mixing features ...

we need to fight for it now

Though you can make your own personal eq 3 now based on an eq 8.

Don't get me wrong, some of the features will be good as a DAW is concerned, but It would have been cool to have a "Scratch Tool" of some kind for dj's

Live non-linear mixing from the Session grid - using the loops and scrub markers - is far too clumsy right now because of some simple missing features and shortcuts

THREAD: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38280

DJs are in somewhat the same position Live Loopers (because of start marker changes and MIDI Select On Launch problems ... ) have been in for the past year:

Because of certain bugs and omissions some basic moves are either extremely difficult or impossible. We're asking for these detail features to be focused on and addressed to make the release

SCRUB PREVIEWING - another key DJ feature that has not made the cut?

can someone confirm?

This is another simple, missing feature that holds DJing back.

Freedom to choose the "right track" for the moment among hundreds or thousands of tracks needs a real preview function that can skip thru the file

Live is a very diverse program with many ways 2 use it depending upon wht you mainly want to use it for.

I think the thing that would please just about everyone is a series of DVD tutorials each based on the different ways folks use live. One for Hip Hop & loop based music production, one for studio recording, one for DJing & creating mashups, one for Kid Beyonding aka alternative live triggering & performance, one for original sound and instrument creation & manipulation/experimentation, one for techno & glitch/IDM production, and one for whatever the hell else I've forgotten you can with this thing.

I'm willing to bet that your average live user uses it for only one of these things & knows 50% of how to do what they do with this program. If more folks knew more about what you can do in live then would probably complain less about what new features aren’t included for our specific use.

Creating music with live is journey unto itself (yeah I know lame).

Also like AdamJay said 6 is still in Alpha.

Some DJ features I'd like to see:

- Ability to see m,ultiple Clip waveforms at once in Session view (not the little pie charts eitehr).

- Abiltiy to fast forward and rewind through clips while previewing in the browser. When you have 100's of songs on your HD< it can be hard to know each one by just the first few seconds, and we don't have time to sit there all day listening to each track.

- Adjustable crossfader curves (I don't use the CF, but MANY people have been asking for this for ages now).

- Ability to store meta-data (IE, music genre, record label, intensity cues, etc) in the ASD file, and have that displayed in the help pane (for instance) while browsing.

- Some sort of device that allows virtual scratching via external controllers. If you were forced to load any audio placed in this device into RAM, I would think it's entirely possible. Would work for scrubbing too then.

- Some way for PC users to open and close the browser via key commands, though this may be in there already. Didn't see any mention of this though.

Agreed.

I have been asing for this for more than a year.

Absolutely one of the most important features that is still missing. It sounds so basic... because it is. When you are using full tracks, you can't tell what is what unless you skip forward a couple of minutes to get past the intro.

My workaround for this has been to drag clips into the Session View before a gig, so that I can click them and skip ahead to listen and identify. Then I'll drag them to the track I want, and play.

The lack of previw scrub renders the browser useless for DJs.

Well they are all worthy additions and much needed ones at that, so I won't go over them again. I would like to request some other "Grass Roots" stuff:-

1) New version of EQ4 for DJ's that cuts down to -Inf as EQ8 Only cuts down to -12db

2) Fine Transpose made MIDI Mappable

3) Different shape curves available in automation

4) Colour coded Warp Markers

actually EQ8 now goes down to -15dB. but they've also added a SCALE parameter in Live 6. so -15dB is at 100% scale.
at 200%, it sounds like it goes down to -30db
200% is the max.

A scratch feature would be well cool. Although I'm sure theres some kinda plugin that would do someting similar?

As for scrubbing through tracks whilst previewing, that would also be nice.
