This new general MIDI mapping (which haven't been able to try out yet, so take it with a grain of salt) can possibly function like mackie control.
In other words, i see no reason why we should'nt have control over the session grid with MIDI.
if we can gain true control over clip selection, clip brace, waveform view and focus with MIDI?
Bring it on. this is the main point, whether thru feature suggesions in that thread or even better ways
bring it. is what we are saying. honestly hoffman 7 is too long to wait, it would be a shame for the DJ world (again, which is thousands)

I really don't think you are wanting to use the app in the same way with the same type of layered up style as me, Josh & a load others with that comment. Don't you play Rock and Pop? No offence.hambone1 wrote:I disagree. There's HUGE potential for innovative DJs that can think 'outside the box'. Now even more so with 6 and Sampler, macros, etc.

no .. hambone you need to follow the reasoning of what im saying all the way through - and not reduce it to assume that we are saying "Live 6 has no potential for innovation by DJs"
personally - as i said a few posts ago - i think the new features are going to kick some serious ass - particularly the racks, multiple control assignments and others.
[/quote]Yes, it's still missing a few features (I'd really like metadata search support), but I don't see the Abes wanting to make Live a Traktor wannabe.
again, this is classic Internet Reductionism:
reduce the comments of other posters valid points to a stripped down cartoon version of what they are actually saying
... thereby attempting to make them sound ludicrous later in the thread to the readers that never followed the reasoning of the original posters.
stop that.
What we are still fighting for are "fill in the gaps" features that will allow much better control over clips, clip functions, clip brackets, and access to multiple clip waveforms.
they are not complicated to understand, they shouldnt be hellishly difficult to code, and they give us much better control of Clips and Clip funtions in the areas the make Live DIFFERENT from Tracktor
but again you would need to follow what we are saying through and not immediately assume we are merely complaining, or attacking ableton in a negative way

Hi all,
There is a small feature thus, in my opinion, very usefull for DJing that has not been talked about here, as far as I have read:
we can now MIDI or KEY map the litte "pie" or "time display" for the playing clip on a track: means you can bring to focus and display the playing clip on any track by pushing a button. Works also in arrangement.
cheers,
Amaury

YES!!
if i understand this feature correctly, and this means you can flip between playing clips with dedicated controls for each track .. THANK YOU!!!
that is huge.

just to make sure, as my post may not be so clear:
-assign a KEY or MIDI button to the "pie" or "time display", i.e. the zone close to the gobal tarck stop button.
-when a clip is playing on that track, hitting the KEY or button displays the playing clip.
It already works in Live 5 with a click of mouse on that zone by the way.
cheers,
amo

yes, i'm doing this now and this looks like exactly what we need!
it selects the playing clip in the track, gives access to clip funtions and waveforms. AWESOME
Did we get a control for Clip Bracket Select in the clip waveform as well?? we need to get control over the clip brackets without reaching for the mouse
possible now?
(and a nice BIG SCRUB MARKER graphic so we can see it ?

I'm not so sure that I understand what you are saying. Are you talking of the start and end flag?supster wrote:Amaury wrote:-assign a KEY or MIDI button to the "pie" or "time display", i.e. the zone close to the gobal tarck stop button.

not start / end flag ... this refers to focus on clip brackets in the waveform for a clip.
currently the only way to get focus on Clip brackets (ie loops) is to reach for your mouse and click on the brackets.
conversely if you click anywhere away from the brackets on the interface, they automatically lose focus
Control over the brackets = way more control over the music (for looping, looping tricks, live re-edits, non-linear mixing).
without a hotkey or "Keep Clip Bracket Focus" option or command we are always reaching for the mouse .. .constantly

I could not have said it better. These things are needed. myself and others have been asking for the crossfader for over a year. I gave up on trying to use it.Tarekith wrote:Some DJ features I'd like to see:
- Ability to see m,ultiple Clip waveforms at once in Session view (not the little pie charts eitehr).
- Abiltiy to fast forward and rewind through clips while previewing in the browser. When you have 100's of songs on your HD< it can be hard to know each one by just the first few seconds, and we don't have time to sit there all day listening to each track.
- Adjustable crossfader curves (I don't use the CF, but MANY people have been asking for this for ages now).
- Ability to store meta-data (IE, music genre, record label, intensity cues, etc) in the ASD file, and have that displayed in the help pane (for instance) while browsing.
- Some sort of device that allows virtual scratching via external controllers. If you were forced to load any audio placed in this device into RAM, I would think it's entirely possible. Would work for scrubbing too then.
I may not be able to talk too far about that since I don't know about things that I don't know about yet
, but just to understand:
aren't you happy MIDI mapping the "position" and "length" for the loop? What more can you make by selecting the loop brace? moving it? without the mouse?
best,
Amaury

YES! moving - and resizing - the loop using the arrows and CTRL / SHIFT + arrows. something so simple that opens up so much control over your mixing:
using control over the loop in combination with the scrub marker, etc etc. you would be suprised at how much you can do with these simple elements if you have never played this way!
now this is way more difficult because the braces lose focus. we need a way to keep the braces selected so they dont lose focus and we dont lose Arrow control of them.
ie. an option to touch a another part of the interface, but the default jumps back to the Clip Brace. see?
AND / OR a Select Clip Brace In Active CLip shortcut. very simple. need this guys!
