Does anyone have any idea when all three will be available?
Are they likely to discount Logic if bought with the Mac?
Logic 8 + MacIntel Desktop + OSX Leopard...
I doubt Logic 8 will be out for at least another year.
I doubt there will be anymore than a 100 discount off of the $1000 or so it will cost.
I am more convinced that Logic 8 will come out in 1.5 years or more, if ever again.
I don't think apple has too much incentive, especially since more of the pros are going to be using Live with their own plugins.
I own Logic. I have seen where the attention has gone more to garageband and video software. My intuition tells me that I don't have to worry about the lack of upgradability on Academic versions.

logic does a number of things well. But there's always room for additions. Personally, I'd love to see:
freezing multi-output vsti's a la sonar
separate lanes within a single track a la sonar
improved track folders (open in same window) a la sonar
performance on mac platform that matched the stability and track count on pc at version 5.5 (it really was pretty damn good).
always room for improvements. i'd love to see logic 8 too (probably will be worth a switch), but i'm beginning to think it's going to be a long time also....

cuz booting to windows once in a blue moon to bounce out sessions
from another studio is a pain...

Although I agree that it will probably be at least a year before you hear anything about logic 8, it most definetly will be coming (despite what LOFA said). Although some people are experimenting will live as another production tool, there are not a huge number of "pros" giving up logic and pro tools for live.
Logic is still growing and beginning to overtake pro tools as the industry standard. It will be another 10 years before you start seeing a majority of the world only using live.
On a more insightfull note, apple still has a very active department working on the new stuff for their pro audio apps (including logic).

There are two reasons why I haven't ditched Logic for Live exclusively. One: the included instruments and effects are simply amazing. Top notch. Two: I think Logic 8 will be ridiculously cool, and I would kick myself square in the junk if I sold Logic before it was released.
The possibilities are indeed endless, but as someone said, simple things are difficult. But apple's whole game is simplicity, and I can't believe that won't effect Logic.
So much room for improvement, like: destructively edit regions with effects (ala pro tools/soundtrack), ability to record audio from one track to another realtime (like ableton and many others), easier object based automation (with actual parameter names..), audio slicing (like cubase-screw apple loops..).
And you know they'll be copying those cool features that have been popping up everywhere like reason's combinator/ableton's racks/kore. And for the software that first introduced freeze, they'd better catch up to the rest on that (choosing instruments or effects, deep freeze).
Funny thing is, I actually emailed apple support with a bug suggestion on how to improve freeze to be way more useful, not long after they first introduced it. I told them they should allow region editing, and all editing options possible with an audio track, but just keep the midi track displayed, as if the audio was layered underneath, and when you unfreeze it, the midi regions play from where they where moved to. Didn't happen, but Turns out Ableton did just that. good on 'em.

i know alone 3 commercial studios in Bratislava (the town i live in) who made the switch from PC based nuendo and PT systems to Mac Logic, with no regrets! in the last 6month. (with help of my influence... though, he, he!)
the whole package 1000dollar is really abargain considering the quality of the plugs / instruments supplied! and especially express what you get for 300dollar is simply astounding and shurely the best bang for the buck ever... IMHO.
