Logic 8 + MacIntel Desktop + OSX Leopard...

yea i'm using express and its fucken fantastic.

once i get some cash rollin in I'll upgrade to pro, as express has me longing for more!

it ain't mean ditching Live, right!?! everything in it's own respect does a good job!!

Anyone know how Live 6's instruments will rate against Logic's (audio quality of samples, synthesis, etc.)?

If Live 6's built in instruments sound as good as Logic's, then I won't need to buy Logic.

This is just my opinion and it's nothing against Live, which I love, but it's bundled suite doesn't compare to Logic's sound, and the built in effects and instruments you get with it.

Having used Reason, Pro Tools, Live and Logic, Logic is still my favorite sounding program. I truly have no idea wether Sequencers have their own sound or if digital is digital across he board (That's a heated debate), but I find when I use Logic and only it's built in sounds, it comes out sounding much more professional to my ears, than what I do in Live with it's bundled stuff. The ES2, sculpture, the electric piano, organ, exs, they sound as good/better than most third party stuff honestly. I'm not sure if there is any difference with the mixers of the two programs or what the technicalities are behind panning laws etc., but I just find the mixes to be clearer in Logic (again, it could be the effects/instruments I use in it).

I will say this: If I could get all of Logic's instruments and effects in Live, I would probably only use Live. (even though Logic does have more advanced editing features). In fact I often try to convince myself I don't need Logic anymore, but the results speak themselves to me,

Yeah, but have you heard the Live 6 Sampler (super fidelity or whatever it's saying...)? I guess I probably won't know until a beta tester chimes in or until September.

But, like you (above), I agree that Logic has the best sounding sampler, synthesis, drum machines out there. Better than any 3rd party shit I've heard as well.

I'm considering buying logic for that alone (and the editing functions like it's slicing). But if Live 6 comes even close to Logic's sound, then I'm going with Live 6 by itself. I'm really trying to getaway from using Rewire and do everything in-house. I find it better for editing later on, easier on the processor munching, and more organized when it's all in Live.

I wouldent plunge until it's well tested. The Logic 7 rollout was a disaster, and Apples customer service for problems was even worse.

I dont expect 6 to sound any better than 5 really. This is the one thing that hurts Live, as Logic has the bar set at a ridiculously high level. Nothing else compares.

DAW's definatly have particular sounds, just like better cables and better preamps.....or just different ones!

It's too hard to get into a debate about it cause people are "married" to one idea or another. I could care less, I like the sound or I don't.

One thing about logic/protool in my opinion.....isn't a track-by-track comparison, but a "mix" comparison. With logic/protools......and yes indeeded my kidies.....live things tend to "sit" nice without over-the-top eq/dynamics etc. Live's biggest downfall right now is sends/bussing etc where it's harder for the sent sound to "sit".......it all panning laws and summing which I have a hard time explaining....but I hear it.

There is one program in particular..........OK, I'll name it and piss some people off.....TRACKTION that has something very very strange going on. It's dull to start (please, not the meter level thing......PLEASE!) and once you start adding tracks......it's just cluttered...........ick.

I feel the need to say this..........

When I was on pc, and had all my plugs without having to wait for UB'S, I got more done faster with live than anything I've ever used.

Logic is superb, but it does crash, I am one of many with coreaudio issues quite frequently, and it's taking me time to get deeeeep into it. Oh yeah, I can write a song in it sure, but it's DEEEEEEEEEEEP.......It blows me away what you can do with it.

For people that work with midi, I just can't imagine anything (well, there is the cubase argument) that is this good.
