I have just bought some new mp3 tunes and although they play in all other music app. on my pc, ableton reads them as blank, it gives the correct length but no sound wave.
my default initial response for mp3 problems is to check that you have the latest quicktime installed. ableton apparently uses quicktime for some mp3 functions.
if all else fails, i'd say to record or render the mp3's as wav files
