Bread`n`Butter Synth that sounds as good as Absynth 3?

Sup

Whats ya guys preferances for a synth to create ya basic common garden sounds like leads, drums (maybe), rythmns, fakes ect but sounds just as good as Absynth does

and remember... Absynth sounds like they lifted the roof off hell or opened the doors to heaven and out played a single sound summises the existance it came from

I found absynth, but nothing else seems to be comming close ya know, and i know you`ve all been in this situation concerning some piece of gear or synth or instrument ect

it's not quiet absynth, but has an enormous sound and flexibilty, a bit of a CPU hog, though...

but it's free and well worth checking out...

Ok
I am taking this directly from a computer music magazine...
In one of the recent UK editions they test Free software vs Commercial.
Funnily Absynth goes up against a very popular/I hear powerful synth called Greenoaks Crystal (Google it)
They are both considered as great synths so check it out..its free

I have Crystal and find it bewildering to program.

I actually find Absynth much more intuitive.

...and Absynth is on sale at the NI-versary. Still a bunch more expensive than the FREE Crystal, though...

Zebra2 has my favorite GUI. This is an amazingly powerful, versatile synth. Rock solid. Great sound. Easy to edit modular design. IMO, Zebra2 stands at the top with the very best synths and personally I think it walks all over absynth.

List price is $199, the current price is $169 and if you have an old hardware synth you can get the 'dinosaur' crossgrade (meaning send in a photo of your old gear) and then the price is $119

Ah ya yeah i`ve been messing around with Crystal too plus I totaly forgot about that issue of CM (where I found out about Crystal heh).

I believe the PC version you would download is still the preview, next couple days should have the final version available (I think)

The final version you can save/copy osc settings (there are a LOT of settings for one osc since you can draw up to 16 waveforms, plus the osc effects etc) and save/copy the Multi-segment envelopes too. The final version also has the new MMix modules. (Modulation mixers) and alt tunings. Also, the scripting is in the latest version which allows users to write all sorts of scripts for randomization of parameters, the X/Y pads, etc.

yup, not to jack da thread but absynth is now $149 at musicians friend. worth every penny fo so. blows fuckin doors on operator for the cheddar.

as far as another synth, not sure, i use absynth and reaktor for all my synth needs. you can't go wrong with native instruments, just get another one of their synths. the FM synth by NI is also on sale for the NIversary, you can swoop it for cheap at their site.

Rapture doesn't do a bunch of the things you want in a "bread & butter synth" - oscillator sync, fm etc, and is kind of weird to program. I have it and like it but I wouldn't start out with it.

Tassman 4 sounds great but it's a PITA to use and nuclear overkill for bread & butter sounds.

Tho Crystal is a bit heavy to program it offers a lot of sound possibilities.

I like Claw even tho it is monophonic. I have gotten some crazy sounds out of it.
