Audio Interface for Live DJ Performance/Portablity

Post by Allison Redhead » Wed Jul 19, 2006 11:16 pm

Hello everyone!

I've slowly been moving all my hardware in the direction of a focused, portable system for DJing live with Ableton Live.

I was working off of a Dell with an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile but I've become increasingly unhappy with that setup.

I finally gave into temptation and ordered a Black MacBook with 2GB RAM (should arrive tomorrow) and now I'm looking to pick up a better audio interface. I would prefer it be firewire (USB ports are in short supply, but I could be talked out of that if there were a better sound/interface option) and I really would love something bus powered.

As my laptop currently doubles for production use (lots of time on planes) and live performance I really need something with outstanding audio quality.

I kind of like the MOTU UltraLite, but that's major overkill for inputs and outputs. Or is it?

ASIO is a MUST.

I've done a quick search and come up... frustrated. Ideas? Anyone?

Edit: I suppose I should also point out that I'd like the interface to have MIDI in/out and at least two stereo outs (master/cue) to facilitate headphone cueing.

ditto

bump

i now need the same advice

i know there were threads on this in past but the search function here is a little crazy when looking for these keywords.

firewire audiophile could never ever be trusted on stage, have had to many issues thus far.

I used to have the FW Audiophile too, but I switched to the Presonus Firepod. So far, I've had no problems with the thing at all, except that it can't be bus-powered.

If you're looking for something smaller, perhaps the Presonus Firebox or the Focusrite might be good.
