Impulse & MIDI

Post by Elaed » Wed Jul 19, 2006 3:17 pm

Sorry if this has been already posted, will we be able to assign midi to the mute and solo buttons of Impulse now with Live 6 ?

If no, pleeease Live 6.0001 ?

And it would be preferable if muting a sound on Impulse acted like if you mute a midi channel sending to Impulse instead of an instant 'mute' of the sound !

Other big wish - a new midi 'effect' which is a step/pattern sequencer where each step is fully midiable, and of course the changing of patterns.
Wouldn't this be an amazingly useful (and fun) alternative to the manual clicking work required otherwise (for electronic / live performing artists) ?

Again, if this has been suggested already, my apologies.
If it's actually going to be in Live 6 already, great!!! :D
If no-one suggested it then sorry for not asking sooner!

I'm quite certain now that these features are not in Live 6...

Maybe Live 8?

What if you send Impulse to separate audio tracks and then mute/unmute these? Too much of a hassle?

Regards,
Mikael

I do the reverse - send seperate midi tracks to the Impulse, kick, hats etc. That way I can do the right kind of mutes I want - it doesn't sound good to unmute the audio of a kick a few milliseconds off time ya know! And its nice to hear the trail of hats or rides after you mute them.

Problem is that you have to create so many midi tracks, takes time and cpu - and the whole idea of Ableton is to increase workflow etc...

Seems like you've thought things through!

The more controls we can have the better I think.

Yeah it's funny, just about every possible control in Ableton is assignable except the mute/solos on the Impulse - I wonder how this happened?

The step / pattern thing would be a bonus too but I suppose there are some plugins out there to do that.

Mute/solo is still not mapable in Live 6.
But it's not impossible and it doesn't require 8 midi tracks.

The midi effect racks are really flexible things. I've figured out how to work the mutes with 1 knob and 1 button (or 8 buttons if you prefer..)
Solo will be a bit tricky, but it's probably possible too.

I know it sounds like a nasty workaround. But it'll come in handy if you have 16 impulse's in one instrument rack for example.

Ah cool! Thanks for the info, sounds good!

Do you know if controlling the mute in this way will get an instant mute of audio or will it be more like a midi mute?

MIDI mute and (maybe) midi solo.
