midi from vst instrument
midi from vst instrument
Will this work in Live 6 like in all other major hosts?
In Live 5 it's still giving problems when having multiple midichannels coming from the instrument (say a Sonicbytes ERA2)
These get merged to a single channel.
I know there is no VST midi spec but all other hosts are fine only Live doesn't get it. This strikes me odd.

Midi Out from vsti
Hello Guys,
i aggree, there are some "problems" with the output of multiple midi channels of vsts and vstis. As i remember, there is no "multi channel out or in" in the "original" vst, vsti specification.
So there are no compressors with audio sidechain inputs aso.
Nothing is "faulty" here in Live !
The only workaround i have found for era:
1. Install a virtual midi cable (maple, 4 Midi Ports out / in works best for me)
2. Install plogue bidule as vst, vsti host. quit the application.
3. Start Live and set Bidule as an Audio Input. I also set a midi output to bidule (dunno why ?).
4. Start Bidule, should work as Rewire slave. Install Era and connect the midi output channel to a maple midi out (1)
Now you can use ERA via the maple inputs in Live cannel per channel. Start/Stop and tempo Sync is working, looks stable (tested yesterday)

Thanks for your thoughts.
Lets call the combination off Live and ERA faulty then because both developers point at eachother the user/buyer is left with the shit.
I also use Bidule in rewire mode in combination with a virtual midicable. This works fine but I cannot save in a convenient way as when it would work as a normal vst instr.
With energy XTvst it works well indeed but fot some reason I cannot remember I choose Bidule above eXT.

@ Lo-Fi Massahkah: try loading ERA in eXTVSTinstrument in combination with a virtual midicable you can save the whole setup. It works, I tried it with the demo if I remember correctly but could not save because it was only a demo of eXT.
Doing the same with BiduleVSTinstrument gives me to much instability. (the window handeling of bidule is not as slick as eXT e.g. no docking)
Live chrashed several times and then I gave up because I don't want this to happen in a live situation. In Rewire it runs smooth.

Live - Era - Bidule - Ext
Hello,
interesting discussion, really. First i tried with eXT, loaded ERA. But i did not like the CPU usage of this combination - hey its only MIDI ! For me as a software developer that points to some struggeling between applications or threads whatever...
The Live - bidule combination with rewire looks to be more stable. Didnt do "excessive" tests on our Live Rack machine...

I'll try that as well. Maybe to get Simpler and Impulse working... and then Sampler!

Re: Live - Era - Bidule - Ext
That's what I was thinking. I'm not a programmer but I heard it's not easy to do the midi thing (timing wathever) good on a PC with Windows. But I don't want to go into that discussion actually.Hoitabuam wrote: hey its only MIDI ! For me as a software developer that points to some struggeling between applications or threads whatever...
Maybe the added later midi features don't get much priority in a program that was only audio manipulation.
Hopefully it's something easy to fix. (but a different reaction was to be expected from ableton in this case)
So far no polyphony from VST instruments
