Live 6 now *oficially* tempo maps

Post by forge » Mon Jul 24, 2006 8:01 am

I just noticed in the latest alpha we now have the ability to set an audio clip as master

right under the warp button you can now see "slave" and if you press it becomes master and the whole song fits to it!!!

NICE! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hambone will be dancing in the streets of Ipswich town!

like a global groove quantize I´m guessing ?

I was kinda hoping it would work that way . . . do you know if delaytimes etc are synced to this grid too ?

basically if you set a clip to master then the global project tempo adjusts itself (as in master tempo automation) to fit to the master track

so yes everything will sync

That is TRULY awesome!!

Does this groove quantise the MIDI as well, or just ausio, and what is the quantise value?

Not quite...

It's useless for DJing. All we need is for the tempo map embedded in a warped session view clip to control Live's master tempo.

yeah I guess it does need to be in sesson view for it to be really useful for DJs

but then it's not so hard to quickly drag or copy/paste a clip into arrange on the fly

It gives me hope seeing the master tempo tracking the song in arrangement view, though. Pretty cool to drop in a non-computer sequenced track (human tempo), hit autowarp, and see the tempo automation.

We just need to embed that master tempo automation in a track that can be used in session view. A tempo automation track in session view would rule. Launch the scene, and that track controls the master tempo. I'm hoping to do the same thing with a Redsound Soundbite Micro when they're released next month by piping audio from a Live track into the Micro to allow the Micro to set Live's master tempo. If the Micro's tempo generation is decent, you'll be able to drop non-warped tracks into Live, (or use external record players/CDs/whatever) and all accompanying tracks will be in sync.

Hey... but being able to color-code clips in 48 different colors makes 6 a no-brainer for me, anyway! (I'm easily satisfied...)

Thanks forge for starting another redundant thread about a topic you've already discussed elsewhere ;-)
I'm beginning to see Angstroms point about using the wiki instead...

anyway, here's a cross-post of the little "groove template" test I did:
--

This feature didn't exactly get me all that excited. But then I thought: This must be PRECISELY the kind of feature that rocks for groove templates. Then, being alpha-tester and all, I decided to test it out.

Results are in: It effin' rules!

(disclaimer: note that as an alpha all features are subject to change and so on)
Here are two recordings I did: Each contain a breakbeat, an impulse beat quantised to straight 16s and an Operator loop quantised to straight 16s.

The first one is notably "out of the pocket", since the breakbeat shuffles quite a bit. It's actually painful listening to the midi sequence of the drums over the break! (esp the first impulse snare hit - WAY OFF)
Out of the pocket!
The next one is a lot more like it: Note the cheap hihat pattern from the impulse really locking with the break. No midi notes have been moved!
in the pocket!

This is awesome, extremely useful, and way better than most groove template stuff I've seen - you can easily tweak or "massage" your groove throughout an entire song if you want to.

Bah - I'm as excited about this feature as you are. I was going crazy with it yesterday, doing all the usual warping tricks, and having it affect the whole track - so cool.

yeah it was a sudden discovery - purely chance - I consolodated a clip then went to the properties to turn loop on and saw the button saying "slave" 8O

Immediately discounting the first paranoid theory that I was having an acid flashback and Live was finally talking to me with some secret illuminati message, I realised what it was

nice little bonus

Very nice indeed by the sound of it 8)

Just to reiterate my previous question (which I think was missed):

Does this groove quantise both Audio and MIDI tracks as well, or just audio, and what is the quantise value?
