Hi Claudek
my turn to ask you a question.
how do i make a snapshot and upload it (using my iBook OS X)?
As I mentioned before, you may not need to make warp markers every 8 bars... once I got quick at it, it only takes me a couple of minutes to warp most tracks... i don't mind this as it really get me to know the tracks very well.. whilst I'm warp marking tracks I tend to run a perfect beats loop alongside to make sure its sounding perfect in the mix.
best of luck

Hi Guesto,
To make a snapshot in OSX..it is easy.
Hold down Apple then Shift & 3(not the #3 but one below the F keys)
keys then hit your mouse down.
.If you want to capture just an area try this key combo :Apple / Shift / 4 and your mouse turns to a curser with an area you can specify Then once you press your mouse it takes a screenshot of that specified area..(like I am doing) ..Then it will go to your desktop as a "Picture1.pdf" Then you can either open and export as Jpeg from apps like Image Capture or Photoshop etc..

Hi,
No, I don't spin in NY, though most of the music that I play comes from there (Soulful House - MAW, Blaze, Danny Krivit, Francoise K. etc.), I live in Israel and work in Tel-Aviv. In fact I'm the only DJ in this country that plays Soulful House music but I have a very good crowd in a great club that goes crazy for it. I used to live in London until a few years ago and there I opened up to this music, after I used to play Techno in my early years as a DJ.
Still love and appreciate all types of music though.
Haven't heard of the caberet laws, what are they?

Ok I warped a few tracks now and got the idea...
kinda cool I must say..just takes some time..Now with all thse warped tracks do you just save them in all one say "DJ live" song? or can you load the .asd anyway so you can load a song and the associated warp info and file data to go with it?
Oh one more thing:
In order to play these songs they have to be in "Loop" mode ? I could not find a way to have them play without having loop on?

I'm pretty much in the same boat as claudek. I can do it but it takes me a while. I generally run the click track while I am warping and assign a key command to trigger the track so I can start it over again when it gets too far ahead of me.
I geuss it's the type of thing I need to practice at to get quick. I warped two tracks, In Dog we Trust by Akufen and Dog Days by Matt Dear. Both played along in sync with the click track but when I mixed them together they were still out of sync. Maybe this has something to do with were I am placing my start points? I don't know, regardless it is obvious I did something wrong.
I'm also wondering how close you guys are zooming in on the waveform while warping. I end up zooming in pretty close and going through the track. This is probably why it takes me so long to warp my tracks. I skim along and adjust the wave form at every point it begins to get away from the grid. It takes forever. I think next time I am going to zoom in just enough to see the peaks and valleys in my wave form and when I see a point that needs adjusting I will zoom in and adjust it.
I find the process of scrolling through the wave form with the mouse rather frustrating. I find myself zooming in and out when I do not want to, and sometimes accidentally clicking and jumping to an entirely new part of the waveform. I'm understanding how this works, but I need to get used to it.
It would be nice if there were a key command to allow you to scroll horizontally through the wave form after you have zoomed in. Arrow up and down for zoom in and out and arrow left and right for scroll.
Still Learning.

One thing I find is to keep the warp grid organized..like in even groups of 8 or 16, then I can keep track of the bars etc..If one area gets out of whack with a edit or something then this helps keep the beats in proper time..Maybe others have a better idea..
I would love to see live be ablte to import Mp3's.

midi controllers to 'dj' with ableton live
i'm just adding to the ongoing conversation in order to really inquire about the capabilities of things like the evolution uc-33e and the xsession uc-17. i understand that all the knobs, pots, and faders are programmable. that's really cool, but that only one part of dj'ing, let's say it the mixing after 'aligning' the songs 'on top' of each other. how would you trigger the songs to start and stop though? can't do that with a knob, pot or fader. it needs a trigger button doesn't it? maybe you already adressed this, but i didn't find it, tell me again if that's the case would you please? are there any midi controllers out there with say the features of the x-session uc-17 from evolution with the trigger start/stop features of all regular 'dj' tables?

Guys,
I've got a very general reply from Ableton with no specific recommandations.. I understand they are a small company, still I'm a bit surprised, because I expeceted more detailed and quicker reply.
Anyhow, I am really anxiouse to start working with Live, however I still don't even have the laptop. Maybe some of you can recommand a good and strong PC laptop to run Live, one that will be able to support the plug ins in real time?
Also, Ableton told me there are other MIDI controllers on the market, anyone knows of anything else apart from the uc-33 that is worth looking into?
Thanks,
Purple

BTW, I'm also checking for the right Soundcard or A/D/A convertor or however you call it. I checked Apogee Mini-Me series that Guesto recommanded but it seems that it's not exactly what I need because it's out puts are only digital and to get the analog outputs you need a separate unit. Also it has mic-preams which I don't need.
It seems to me that what I need is only one stereo input for recording music into my laptop, and 3 stereo outputs: two for two separate channels on the DJ mixer, and 1 for another DJ mixer channel that I'll use for headphones cueing etc. Am I thinking right here?
I would love to have the option for 24bit 96kHz playback and recording.
I don't want to spend money on overkill features that I don't need but would like to get the best quality unit with the features I do need.
Any thoughts?
If I find a unit that has a phono preamp for recording my vinyls that would be a bonus. But if not, I will be happy to buy a separate phono pream, I found one that seems really good and not that expensive.
Sorry for the huge list of questions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks puma,
I've heard of this unit a couple of days ago, it seems interesting though I don't know it's price. Wasn't built exactly for what I need (only recording my vinyl collection to digital and then playing through Live), but I guess it can function just as I wanted. I wonder what is the quality of the phono preamp. Do you know any more details about it?
Ableton themselves finally answered my e-mail and suggested:
http://www.mhlabs.com/index2.html
Again, a bit of an overkill for me cause it's got mic preamp, but the rest is fine. They also don't give the price for it, but I'll write them an e-mail.
Another recommandation I've got is for the Midiman M-Audio Audiosport USB Quattro Sound Card:

Anybody knows any of these other units?
