Live 3 crashing on my brand new laptop

Hey everyone. Live 3 is crashing on my new sony vaio laptop WinXP home edition. What can i do? I got this laptop to play shows and perform live. How can i go on stage when this program keeps crashing for no appartent reason???

Hi Guest,

we need at least a bit more information to get closer to this problem.

1.) Get sure to use lthe atest Live version (3.0.2)
2.) When is it crashing? After a special action? If yes, which one?
3.) Please send me the logfile of Live ("...Program Files\Ableton\Live 3.0.2\Preferences\Log.txt")

ok i will get the new version 3.0.2.
Its not crashing for any apparent reason, its very random actually. Once i just opened it up, and walked out of the room, next thing i know is my computer was frozen. Other times it just freezes up when im just messing around, nothing too crazy.
Is this a problem that can be fixed even if i send you the log file? This is a wonderful piece of software, i just need it to be very stable on my laptop.

Hi,

for a crash the logfile is a good help to get closer to the problem. For freezes it is much harder. You should (at least temporarily) disable stuff like screensavers or other power safe issues.

Thanks Alex,

Yes "freezes" is a better word for my problem. It never crashes, just freezes up. This all just makes me very worried. I will disable screen savers etc. Thanks for promt posts on this issue. What else can i do in the mean time?

oh yeah, i looked at the log file myself and i didnt notice anything out of the ordinary ie. messages like "error" or "bad command" or anything like that at the end of the file. Im not a programmer, but i was looking for some kind of indication of the problem. But i should leave it up to the pros i guess.

if you haven't already, take a look at www.musicxp.net for tips of tuning up xp for music. Also turn off and live updates for windows, anti-virus software, etc, and use the tips on www.blackviper.com to get rid of messenger. BV is also awesome at explaining all of those programs running in your system tray (on the task manager), and can help you trim out ones you don't need--I'm down to about 20, 5 of which are my anti-virus software.

I'm having the same problem with the Live 3.0.2 demo a brand new Sony Vaio FR415B, 2.8GHz Intel Celeron, 512MB RAM, and 40GB hard disk.

It came preinstalled with Norton Internet Security (which includes their anti-virus and firewall software) -- both of which I have tried disabling, but Live still freezes.

Fortunately, for my job I write hardware diagnostics for PCs, so when I get a spare moment I'll run our processor and memory tests on it to see if I can eliminate the hardware from being a cause.

I've only been trying out Live for a few days (sometimes it will run for a usable amount of time before freezing) and I have to say it looks fantastic -- it does everything I'm looking for! If only we could get to the bottom of this freezing...

Sorry, forgot to mention the Sony is also running Windows XP Home Edition and that it's a laptop (just realised it's not immediately obvious from its model number!)
