My inlaws lived just north of there (Patrick's Point), they knew better than to live near that town (they lived in a tiny trailer with a huge dog, they're far from snobs). Going through that town is like you're in the middle of nowhere midwest, with fog. Great restaurant at the Eureka Inn's Rib Room, 4 star actually, cool jazz. Rooms are so old you swear there's ghosts.
The bitch of it is, it's just GEORGIOUS! When it was the 8th day of 100/110 degrees here.......it hadn't hit 70 there!

I'm still considering living there, just not in "eureka".........

I'll have to go there for lunch tomorrow. I think that record shop is still cool DJ shop, racks of wax.

That neighborhood (Hayes Valley) is pretty good, one of the 'bohemian' parts of town and it'll probably stay that was as long as the projects at the bottom of the hill are still around. If not, it'll yuppify damn fast. Otherwise it's a good couple of blocks to live in, good bang for your SF rental buck. I wouldn't be suprised if there were a few Live users around there.

eyeknow - I guess you're used to the coastal fog and whatnot. I don't mind it but I do appreciate that I live in a much less foggy part of town. It's pretty hot in this part of town today but I can see the coastline and the fog is in full effect.

Yeah, it's a really cool couple blocks - right up the street from the loin and down the street haight st if I'm not mistaken

Please go man - I always got the fried porkchops - it's all good food

and that store is still there? Cool - I'm seriously considering a trip down there soon just to get out of Seattle and be all San Fran for a minute - maybe a week before school starts in the fall

peace man!

this is basically my area...give or take. Now, here in roseville/rocklin it's even higher BUT it's people with some sort of income. Real estate is really slow right now, but that's mostly because of interest rates.

Now, stockton is a dump compared to sac IMO and look at those prices!!!!

Then, there's reno........WHAT :?: 8O Does working in a casino pay that much??????? .......please!

Seems to me that reno should be the 64% overpriced, with stockton at 59% and sac should be 34%..........

Say huh? Whatever. Florida is a pit. I'm allowed to say that because I went to high school in Florida.

I don't know if you can call real estate "overpriced". It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Naples is a richy rich part town in Florida, a college friend grew up there, there's the uber rich then there's the swamp buggy races they hold here. The last and only time I went to Florida the f-ing bugs drew about a pint of blood an hour. All the houses down there have huge screened in pools. the front of the place looks normal, but the back has a 2 story metal and mesh screened in area around the pool, the bugs are that bad. Some people dig that place, I'll let them have it. Applebees and Cracker Barrell are fine dining down there (I was in the Ft Worth area just north of Naples). Amazing thunderstorms, warm gulf water, not much else. Miami's supposed to be cool.

Uh, it is cool - at least South Beach is

for like 5 days - any longer than that and it turns into a bad movie

If you're ever in Miami go to MONTY'S - The best Seafood I've ever eaten in my life

All this talk about Food and Traveling <--- My two favorite things in the world besides some other stuff

Florida used to be a pretty cheap state to live in, but that has changed drastically over the last 5 years or so...

housing prices have gone way, way up since people started buying properties as alternate investments to the stock market, or to flip (resell at a higher price to someone else who comes along). on top of that, homeowner's insurance has skyrocketed to double, triple or more the rates of just a few years ago. recently, an insurance company wanted to raise it's rate again by up to 90%.

food prices have gone up a good bit too, in a state with notoriously low wages for the majority of it's residents. when a gallon of milk got to $3.70 and a 12 pack of Coke was "on sale" at $3.50, i knew the good ol' days were definitely gone for good.

but, overheated housing prices have happened down here before, usually with a predictable downturn after the party's over.

Florida strikes me as having a lot of different layers to it, some amazingly beautiful coastline on 2 large bodies of water, swamps and deep south culture in the inland areas, retired people due to the tax laws, what's the deal down there? Seems like a lot of different cultures, but I don't really know, just curious. And a governor named Jeb, what is that short for? Jebus?

What part are you in?
