My number one priority is to play AKAI libraries. Maybe i'm in the minority, but my basic needs are for a sampler-player. Tweaking is great, but I need good instruments, right away, from the Akai discs.
This is my first pause in my excitement for Sampler. It will be useless for me if the IMPORT functions are messy. Surely Ableton will be on this...???
I'd really like to hear if anyone has had success importing sample libraries of any format. Kontakt's NKI does not seem to be working, but how about other formats?

I had 2 crashes today trying to import my "Synclav FM" Akai-formatted CDROM into Sampler.
Only partial success with the factory EXS24 sounds too. Sampler should be intelligent enough to search the EXS Factory Samples folder before propting you to find it with a dialog box I think.
I'll try "Distorted Reality" tomorrow...

Distorted Reality imported into Sampler fine. Didn't check every single patch , but it all seems to be there...
MacBook Air 1.6GHz 2GB RAM, New iMac Core 2 Duo 2GHz, 4GB RAM, OSX 10.5.4, Live 7.0.9, Nord Stage 88, Korg Karma, Synclavier II & 3200, Waves SSL, etc.

leave all 'lacks' behind,
Sampler is AMAZING!
It is such a powerfull sound designing tool..
Routing and most features are so clever and unique..
FM osc is absurd; love it..

I have had success with most soundfonts (sf2). But for some the looping was wrong.

I've only got K1 but the NKIs I've imported have seemed okay to me

You're handling mulitple integrated devices. Which makes a stack of Samplers one device with a lot of options.
The key/velocity mapping is handled by the instrument rack that contains multiple devices.
Which can be ANYTHING. You can add impulse devices for choke groups, Simpler's for pitched percussion, operator/sampler with the sounds you created...
You can have individual effects for each device. Which also may contain a rack that responds to key/velocity....
It's not a workaround. It's the new way of working
Actually, Reason has been doing this for awhile now with the combinator so I wouldn't exactly call it
new (I guess new to Live users)...
...
but I am estatic that Ableton has jumped on this type of modular environment. It makes it all the easier for me to get my head around it and gives everyone more flexibility than they think!
Could reason3 open a combinator within a combinator within a combinator within a combinator ????
Don't know, only had a chance fiddle with reason on a friends comp.

I would say that when I make a Live Rack within Rack within Rack, my brain starts to smoke keeping track of the racks!
I have to work it out on a piece of paper, otherwise it all gets very confused in that little window.
what rack am I in?

I agree it is confusing ....
but writing your routings down aint such a bad thing when you can see how monstrously complex it can get now ... also with the added ROUTING OPTIONS which people hav'nt been talking about alot in the threads but contribute to live's added flex. and complex.
when I sit down with live 6 , I feel like wile e. coyote...
trying to build a crazy contraption on blueprints..
and with my ACME tm controllers...
eventually I get my blown by my own inventions !!!
and that's why we love LIVE.
i said it once and I'll say it again :
"ONCE YOU GO RACK - YOU CAN NEVER GO BACK..."

It`s the nature of things that every feature addition unleashes new desires.
We are aware of the fact that a complex routing could benefit from a better visualisation. Maybe some day there will a way to display a diagram of the structure, but this is beyond the scope of Live 6, sorry.

Yeah, I already see it in front of me.
A little diagram that shows a rough structure of the rack. The objects that resemble a rack are lists that can be folded or unfolded. The list contains the names of the plugin used.
But it's probably not that simple, because you would want interaction with the diagram. It could perhaps be laid out as a minibrowser with subfolders.

Its not uber geekish wanting to use akai programs!! Its the biggest sample library file format!
