I was actually making a drum synth so you can imagine my delight when I discovered that, lo and behold, press "fold" in the piano roll of a clip on that track and the names are indeed available to the left of the relevant keys like they are for impulse!!!!!!
Well that's a nice surprize!

Thanks for pointing that out.

it makes you feel like Live is hacking your computer...

right click on track selector

Post by davy » Tue Aug 01, 2006 5:51 pm

you can now right click on the track selector and when there are some devices in the chain it gives you a context menu with those devices. choose the device you like to hightlight and it shows up. no more scrolling in long chains.

OK, I've got one .. and I think this beats everyone elses

I do all my grooves manually by using ctrl-4 to turn the grid off.

In L6 you can actually see the grid when the grid is deactivated!

this is why it took me two years to update to 5... tho I have to say I still liked L3 better. Might wanna reinstall it, actually, just for the arrange... but then i'll miss the routing... ARGH!
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

ah, I do the same, that's pretty handy, feels a bit too loose without the reference.

I should say that you can move midi notes around in L5 while the grid is active, click and then hold on the note - then use the alt key and you can drag freely.

oh yes, I've known this for a long, long time. mm-hmm.

you dont need ctrl, just hold down on the note then hold alt ... and drag the note.

still, the L6 version is better

i must confess that im only starting to get used to that one. at first, i missed "admiring" my arrangements without these dotted lines... but thats ok, i guess the nice new colours will compensate ;)

(Edit: for no vertical lines at all, i'll set the grid to 512/1)

ok, I've got one, not sure if it's been mentioned but has anyone noticed that changing the tempo by clicking and dragging up/down is much more smooth now? In live 5, I would drag up or down with the mouse for a while and the tempo wouldn't move, then suddenly it would jump (by 5-10 points quite often).

This would always annoy me, and sometimes I just couldn't get the tempo to a value I wanted without typing it in. Live 6 is nice and smooth though.

Command + Drag in velocity editor

Post by davy » Sun Aug 06, 2006 10:24 am

In the velocity editor of a midi clip, select some velocity markers you want to edit.

Then Command + drag (on windows ctrl + drag I guess) and you will not get a rectangular selection but you'll get a line. Give the line a little slope and bam, you get a linear velocity curve.

since i cant manage to find a decent bug ;), i'll post the small undisclosed details that impressed me about Live 6:

- Now there are way more tones and colours to chose from for our clips

- A blinking clip in the session view blinks from green to black, not from green to white as before, which looks much cooler. :)

- Arrangement: Option to show only the automated parameters in the automation drop-down menus

- Arrangement: the little orange triangular marker appears not only at the top but at the bottom of the timeline.

- The boxed values are now much more visual (with this orange zone showing the value).

- show/hide buttons for mixer, i/o, etc now available for arrangement view as well...

Anything else?
I can't wait to see the post-release update on this one
