Crash on Live 5.2.1 with long filename

Post by socks » Wed Jul 26, 2006 5:47 pm

The following filename hangs Live for ever in 5.0.2, 5.0.3, and 5.2.1. Thie is on Windows XP SP2. On 5.2.1 a msg box pops up say cannot open .wav file before hange.

"Asia Lounge - Asian Flavoured Club Tunes (CD Series) - Asian Flavoured Club Tunes - 3rd Floor (CD2) - 10 Klaus Doldingers Passport - Things To Come (Marsmobil Remix).flac"

Repro steps:

1. Launch Ableton Live
2. Drag file from exporer or built in file selector
3. Notice app is now hung

Why are you using those versions ?
Use the current version, then report the bug if it exists..

Have you checked whether the filenames are too big for windows. The OS may have a limit to how big a .wav filename can be and this could be causing the error.
Try changing the name of the file to simple.wav or .flac whatever then see if that helps. Maybe .Flac is ok but as Live converts it to .wav the limit is then imposed by the OS.
This is all I can think could be causing the problem (Unless its a Live bug)
I hope this helps you.

I would guess adding the .asd extention may be the issue, but anyway you slice it the app should not hange/crash. Looks and smells like a Live bug to me. Os handles the file fine (can play it, etc).

Hi! I just tried to reproduce this to no avail. Live 5.21 shows a message that it could not open the .wav (probably because of the long filename), but it won't hang here.

Can you try this again with a new Live set.

I just did it again, this time I had to do it twice and it foze before the wav msg came up on the second try. (In 5.2.1 it usually freezes after the wav popup. )

The full path to the filename is z:\djmusic\flac\downtemp-ok\... not sure if that will make a difference.

Prior to reproducing it this time I did a full reboot before launching Live.

Specs:

Windows XP sp2 (all patches)
Compaq AMD64 Laptop
1.2 GB RAM
No MIDI device turned on, but drivers for BCF2000 and M-Audio Duo USB MIDI
Lots of disk, file is on a FW 320GB disk
