I am having a problem with midi in ableton I can get ableton to trigger my midi devices(mpc 2000, nord lead 2, dm pro) but it does not signal in the midi channel and it will not allow me to apply any ableton effects to them I have gotten close to it but when it lets me apply the effects everything doubles up and gets distorted....not sure if im being clear enough with my problem, but hopefully somebody will recognize this..
any input is appreciated

Under options->Preferences->midi check ALL the boxes for the midi port you've got your devices connected to. There's Sync, Remote and Track. Open the help box in the lower left corner of Live to see what these things do. AFAIK there's no harm in having too many options checked here.
Make sure you have the right settings on the TRACK routing above the fader for the track you're using to send midi commands.
