Damn! How long that that take to put together? I would be cool to have a video that showed his screen so you could see the frantic actions of Live

http://www.moldover.com/video/moldover_lrmash_dv5.mov <-- Watch this video. :)

Look for the videos, it's mashup 101, the setup can be very simple. Although the mix here was more active on FX, Moldover shows it Live (pun intended) and simple.

I saw them a few months ago and have been relentlessly making a mashup set, I have about 60 songs so far, reggae, rap, ska, house, soul, funk, it keeps evolving, some songs work, some don't.

I bought 'Mixed In Key' after (Hambone?) suggested it. It scanned my drive and reported the key of all my mp3s. It makes a HUGE difference to mix tunes that are in key than not, but it also helps to find way around mixing songs that are out of key, like mixing their drum parts instead of the melodies.

It all starts with 2 songs.

I was mostly curious how many tracks can you cram into 5 minutes, and still have something that's enjoyable for others than trainspotters. On one forum someone asked "why on earth would someone put that many tracks into 5 minutes?" - the answer is simple: because I can... :D
It's really good fun to mix elements that belongs to totally different musical context, period or style, and create something cohesive out of them.
Actually making it wasn't THAT long, I played around with it a day or so I guess. It went thru a few drastic changes though as I added or took some tracks out.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to make a video of a live session, but I did a screenshot of it, in case someone's interested...

Shane this is one of the coolest things I have ever heard. It's a set like this that really shows the power of Live. There is absolutely no way a set like that could be accomplished with any other format other than software. Way COOL!

Yeah, this is why I stopped playing vinyls and cds.
"It's more fun to compute..."

Thanks for the comment anyway.
Did anyone notice which live version was I using? :D

Cheers

Is the Mixed in Key software Universal Binary?

That would be version 6!

Hats off to you Shane! You break some of my personal rules for mixing with this but then again my rules would never allow me to pull something like this off. Nice!
A little about myself in this thread after Sales Dude McBoob asked for more information after reading my signature at the time after I started a stupid thread: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... ht=#295839

Universal Binary, yes. It works for both Intel and PowerPC Macs.

Hats off to Shane for this great mix :)

its like cramming a whole DJ set in 5 mins. Reminds me of my earlier youthful days going out in a altered state, but instead of 5 mins of time going by I would look at my watch and say damn its already 4 AM :D
