no live 6 and out in the cold..

Post by socketghost » Thu Aug 03, 2006 4:23 pm

I can't believe there haven't been more gripes from people who didn't get in on the beta testing - obviously everyone is a lot more patient than me.

Does no-one else think it's a little unfair that just because they didn't happen to be at their computer for a two-hour window in the middle of the night, they've got left out? Also, isn't that a bit of a wierd way to select beta-testers?

I thought that when the next version of the beta came out there'd be another chance to get 'in', but no - it seems that if you missed that chance then that's it..

Sorry for letting off steam, but now I find that i'm checking the forums every five minutes to see if the beta circle gets opened up, and therefore reading all the posts about all the exciting new features I'm missing out on - SO frustrating!

Yeah man, don't worry, I was in on both 4 and 5 beta tests but keep missing out on this one. It's probably just as well, as my setup is pretty simple, I've rarely had many problems with any versions of Live, so I'm not really a very valid beta tester.

That's what I keep telling myself anyway  I'm practially chewing my fingers off thinking about those racks.

What bothers me is that I was at times only checking the announcement thread, since I figured the beta-start announcement would be there. No dice.

I guess they figure that if you've got enough time to sit around and hit refresh,
you'll have enough time to really give the beta a thourough workout. :)

Surviving 5.3 was all the beta testing I ever care to do. But I do appreciate other's efforts. When the finished release is cleared I'll try the demo. Until then I've got plenty of projects.

Yeah, I agree with jamesp. In a sense, beta testing is just doing software contracting for free. If you really like doing stuff like that, fine. If you just want to work with Live 6 before it's released, at least wait for a few more beta versions to come out so that it's more stable. Otherwise, you might just be frustrating yourself. Most of the time, early versions are just too buggy to be much fun to use.

I hear that the first beta is pretty stable, but there seems to be a lot of bugs posted in the beta forum. All those bugs are going to make your first Live 6 experience less than perfect.

When I compose music I definitely do not want to be distracted by bugs. The better the software works, the better I work. Be greatful you don't have to beta test "after" the release (or just not as much, depending on your attitude).

I was *this close* to downloading, but had to reset my password, by the time it came in the mail I was having to do various stuff, when I got back to it missed out... this is the penalty for having something else in life than Live and I can only blame myself.

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

So, did you get it this time? It went up at 6pm EST.

Or was that a bad time for you?

thanks for all the nice and sensible replies. Yeah, I guess it's true that if I did have the beta I'd be wasting time on bugs n' stuff, wheras as it is I've taken my frustration out on good ol' Live 5, and made something pretty tasty today, if I do say so myself.

So I guess I'll just be patient and remember that the grass is always greener on the other side etc.

BTW I did see the new beta, but if you check the beta page it says they're still not opening it up any further (ie still only the 'original 500' can download it). It was this that got me narked in the first place, but I'm feeling a bit more cool about it now.. 8)

Maybe that's not entirely how it worked out...
