Isn't this like saying track/fader grouping is for people that are too lazy to write automation and/or mix each track individually?
There are daw functions which make things quicker, and save you time that have nothing to do with laziness, just efficiency.
Another thing about slicers is that they usually make beats sound much better than Live's warping, because the groove is retained without weird granular artifacts (although this is often a cool effect - but you don't always want it).
Take a drum and bass loop, and play it under 90 bpm. Hear the difference between Live's warping, and a slicer, especially if the rhythm is loose.
This whole conversation is ridiculous.
If you don't care to use slicers, cool, don't, but saying they're not useful is a crock.
Those same people saying live doesn't need a slicer are going to be singing it's praises when it finally releases it's new fancy-pants slicer 'n dicer, saying how cool and unique it is, when it'll probably be just like phatmatik pro or intakt, but with an fm oscillator, and no multi-outs or per slice editing (but the racks man, the racks!), and have super sweet integration in live as usual.
Don't get me wrong, I love live just as it is, and am happy to use a third-party slicer, but really, it's a surprising feature to be left out, especially since most other programs do it, and live is all about looping.
