stinky wrote:Yes, yes.. with all the gripes about this and that, i'd thought i'd post about this. It's not really a gripe, but more of a question of reasoning.

Why is it that Ableton doesn't allow vst's in rewire mode?

Simple question, but very complicated answer i'm sure. Personally, the only reason that i can see is a 'choice' on the part of the management. I'm saying this only because it doesn't seem to be a limitation of the rewire protocol, as Fl Studio has been able to implement this feature successfully. I'm wondering because i'm an avid protools user (no pun intended), and i'm dying for this feature (as i'm sure i'm not the only one.) It's been left out of the Live 6 feature list, so i can only assume that it's because that's how management wants it.

Personally, i think it's a mistake. That's my opinion, i know. But, i know that a million PT users would be crying out in enthusiasm to be able to use their favorite progs side by side, without having to be stuck in one without the other for any length of time. I think enabling this ability would sell your product even more, especially since there's not another product out there that can compare with your midi mapping capabilities alone.

So, again... can you enlighten us as to the reasoning behind this 'feature'?
Isn't your real gripe with digi/avid though?

Or can PT support VST/i's at all now?

If PT supported VST then you could rewire your live tracks into PT and just run all of your effects, TDM, audiounit (does PT support au's either?), VST, all from PT.

You would do your mix in Pro Tools like you should if you have it. Have you tried arguing with them about it? I bet people have been asking for (digi ignoring) VST support in Pro Tools for much longer than live has been around.

Dude, i have no problem with VST support in Digi. I just use a wrapper, like energyXT, or fxpansion VST->RTAS, and wallah, they're all there, no problem. We've been able to do that for some time now. I don't have any gripes. Just would like to have my workflow presented together. Sketch in Live, and Work in PT. There's no problem there, except now when i rewire, i don't have access to sketch using Live, like i'm used to. It just sux having to close out everything, and open Live in master, sketch something out, then close Live, and Open PT, open Rewire Slave. It sux. It doesn't have anything to do with Digidesign.

who's a snob, i'm not a fanboy of shit. I use PT cause i have to, you know work... sorry Dikke... Some people are required to use PT professionally, you know... it still happens to be the standard Not my choice (personally, i prefer Cubase), but would sure as hell help alot of people. For your information, this has nothing to do with Digidesign or PT. This issue effects ANY host, whether it's Cubase, Sonar, DP.. whatever..
