Attn: Macbook owners - is my display cracked?

Post by sqook » Sat Aug 05, 2006 11:22 am

Recently I noticed a hairline crack on the back of my macbook right about where the display connects to the base of the laptop. I had never paid attention to this area of the laptop before, so I don't know if it was always this way, or something that's happened recently. If another macbook user could take a quick look at the back of their machine and confirm that this is in fact normal (and not a manufacturing defect), that would be much appreciated!

Hi sqook,
I think you're ok... I don't have a macbook but my powerbook looks exactly the same in its construction. I think basically the screen section and the hinge section are two separate bits and you've photographed the join between them. Unless I'm looking at the wrong bit...

I'm not mad at all... the machine has performed great so far, and I've had no problems with it. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a serious problem worth calling apple about, since I noticed that my powerbook had a slightly different construction...

Is that really the reason sqook? Not just cos you've got some inside info on the Quad-core Macbooks being announced on Monday morning???

I have said too much ...

i think your lookin at the wrong bit, i can see a line that looks like its not supposed to be there above the joining seam.

Dude, if they are announcing Quad-Core processors, I don't want to go anywhere near the damn things. My MacBook just about cooks my nuts as it is. What's it going to be like with 2x the heat?

I wouldn't be worried about this, except that I can stick my fingernail in there and flex it out a little bit.. which makes me think it's a crack rather than a place where the plastic is supposed to be joined together.

Anyways, if anyone out there has a macbook, and could confirm that this crack is supposed to be there, that would be rad. :)
