HELP w/ Humming feedback from my Power Mac G5

Post by mono mono 32 » Mon Aug 07, 2006 3:42 am

hi guys, ive been constantly lurking here for the past year or so and finally have an issue maybe someone could help with.

I just got new KRK RP5s and I'm very pleased with compared to the gerneric garbage speakers I had before. I don't really know if it is my monitors or my computer, but there is a pretty loud hum that comes from the speakers. They are connected to the mac through an RCA cable.

When I plugged the monitors in my CD player and listened there was no hum at all. But also, when I turn down the sound level on the monitors the humming goes down.

So what do you think it is? Monitors or computer? Has anyone had this happen to them? Also, I just have a standard sound card in the computer. That's my next purchase hehe. Thanks guys, I really appreciate anyone taking the time to help. :D

here is my 2 cent:
I have 6 or 7 power bars behind my desk powering everything on it. One day I had the exact same problem you have. So after awhile, I noticed that one of my BX5s was plugged into a different power bar than the other BX5. Simply putting them into the same powerbar made the hum go away totally.

I would start playing with where all those devices including your computer get their electricity from 2 see if that helps at all....and proper grounding also.
good luck
