Bought a UAD-1 yesterday, need some advice...

Post by Shane 54 » Wed Aug 09, 2006 12:24 pm

Hello,

I bought a used Project Pack yesterday (who can refuse a 240 euros price?), and this is my first DSP card ever.
I never had to use PDC in Live before, but seems this is the time I seriously have to look at it. I thought some of you might have some good advice on how to deal with the card nicely...
On top of it, I got pops and crackles all the way when using the plugins.
Does anyone has tips (or settings) for me please?

I'm on a P4 3.0 PC / 1.5G Ram / RME Hammerfall Multiface

Thanks

Shane

Try (preferences) plugin buffer -->> "as audio buffer". Try audio buffer 512 or 1024 samples. The UAD incurs latency TO and FROM the card so its latency will be double the audio buffer. Not great for tracking but who cares, best sounding plugins ever.

If that doesn't work there are more parameters to fiddle with: PCI speed (in the UAD utility) switching Turbo DMA mode off (editing the registry) see the forums for details http://www.chrismilne.com/uadforums/index.php

Lastly, on my setup the ONLY way I got it glitch free is: Audio buffer 512, plugin buffer manually set to 256 and in the UAD utility 2 extra buffers so card latency is 1024. Why this is I have no clue but that's how I got it to work...

Hope that helps.

:D

Thanks for the fast response!

I still have those clicks, but less, so seems I'm heading in the right direction.
(switching on PDC was the first thing to do... lol)

Cheers

I forgot another important one: try different PCI slots, number 1 often shares with the video (not good) you should really email uadio support, they're quite helpful. Enjoy!
