I think NI's Akoustik is probably the best VSTi piano, followed very closely by Synthology's Ivory.

I use natrual studios free grand piano soundfont.
it's Ok for occasional use, I am hardly a concert pianist.
http://www.naturalstudio.co.uk/ns_piano.html
(8.11MB total download, extracts to 27.1MB)
Specs:
Sixty-eight 44.1KHz samples
Multi-layers/velocity (including "mock" dynamics)
Stereo spread
Very subtle loops
Features:
Pro studio recorded Steinway Model B grand piano
Long, sustaining, woody tone
Pedal sounds
Hammer sounds (release) - ideal for staccato sounds
you would need a sound font player, I use http://www.rgcaudio.com/sfz.htm

I like the Grand 2. Cuts nice trough the mix.
Can't wait to test reason pianos, seems awsome.

i also forgot to mention that i have recently acquired a baldwin upright.
so i now have the real thing. (but i am going to check out the soundfont one - i use the sound font leslie sim sometimes)
i know i will actually have to bust out the mics, stands, and pre-amps, but ive got room.
and i know, no midi. thats ok. i can play the piano pretty well
