linear recording in live?

I was wondering what people do after completeing a tune in the arrange view and want to record a live guitar or vocal part over the entire length of the arrangement. I know you can do it very easily in session view per scene, but I would like to do it over the entire length of the arrangemnent.

what i do is create a new track - insert track then select live in - then hit the red dot the already recorded piece will begin to play so just play along to the song and it gets recorded in the track
