Live 3 Unusable under OS X Rewire

Post by jamieh » Tue Jan 13, 2004 12:09 am

Set-up G4 800MHz Dual with 1.25 GIG Ram
120 G Firewire drive for audio and samplesOS 10.2.8
Logic Audio 6.3.3
Live 3.0 or 3.01
Live takes at least 2 minutes to launch.
A session with 4 or 5 tracks pukes spits and sputters running under rewire and Logic. It worked better in Version 2. Consolidate track does not work.
I used to like Live an figured it work come into age.
It is pure audio crap. As soon as I finish this project I am through with this piece of crap. I hope Apple makes SoundTrack rewire capable as I am sure it will kick Live's butt.
You need to stop advertising it as OSX compatable as it is NOT!
A former fan,
J

Well, it is definitely usable with DP and Cubase under OSX. I personally do not like the rewire implementation of Logic - so I try to get around it if I can - and with DP and Cubase there is no reason to use Logic for rewire.
But works with DP and Cubase (well, if Cubase would work, you could say works - but this is not a Rewire or Live problem).

Well jamie,

"bad" news for ya -
your computer setup must be at fault as the Live'n'Logic combo in OS X rocks over here, complete with interlocking circle/loop mode, playing & improvising sets in Live while a musician is being recorded into Logic Platinum. All this on two monitors, to see what's going on in both programs, and the fabulous Motu 828 on my not-to-speedy TiBook.

So, I'm happy to say, Rewire actually works

I'm using Live under OSX and getting as good track/plug-in performance as I did with DP (though you might argue that eVerb is a bit better than Reverb). Which is gone now. Out the fucking window. Never again. I love Live.

Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

OK now that I've downloaded version 3.0.2 it seems a bit better. I do love this program I just wish it did better under OS X. With Pro tools and Rewire it seems much better then Logic and Rewire.
By itself or with Reason it seems fine.
Unfortunately most of my music to video work is composed in Logic running (or trying to run) Live in Rewire mode.
I'm going to try to get a faster CPU and see if that helps.
The deadline thing makes me crazy though when you are trying to use these apps with puking audio dropouts as the clock ticks away.
Keep up the good work Ableton. I'm going to try and remain a fan.
Cheers,
J
