MIDI control messages - Pocket Dial, etc...

Post by neuronaut » Wed Jul 03, 2002 3:50 pm

Just got a Doepfer Pocket Dial. Of course, I'm a mac nut and the editor software is for PC so I have yet to reprogram the presets. Did anyone manage to just plug and play with preset 0 (volume messages) into Live?

How can I find what messages Live is looking for for each channel, function, etc., so I can reprogram the dials? Is there a MIDI map?

Hey Grig,

Live "learns from Midi". So you put it in "learn from Midi Mode" (Command+M on a Mac, Probabaly Cntrl+M on a PC, I dunno), then click on the knob/button/whatever in Live you want to control and wiggle the knob on your Midi controller. Live will set the control to whatever CC# the Midi controller sends. The best way to approach this is to set it up in a blank Live session then save the Live Session as a template of sorts. Start each new Session from that file and rename it usisng "Save As" when you go to save the new song.

Hope that helps.... Now get outside its lovely in the city today! :D

Hi grig,

For Live you should use Pocket Dial preset 111. (switches to 01110110)
Consult the online compatible_list at doepfer
http://www.doepfer.com/controller/compatible_list.htm

Now you got 1024 relative (inc/dec) controlers.
16 knobs X 4 Banks X 16 MidiCh

And it works like heaven,
now you can use software in same way as you would use hardware, control it with many many knobs.

Enjoy,
