My favourite album aswell. I simply love this album. The live album is very good also.

Saw the MTV Stripped thing with Kanye West where he also mentioned the album.

My old signature was pretty stupid, so I changed it to this one.

Completely welcome. I was getting a little disappointed to see things kind of cool off lately but it's just been an off-time for the genre. I don't see actual interest waning for trip-hop though, most people I know would consider Massive Attack or Portishead's work to be extraordinary.

Top 10? For the genre, Dummy is probably the best trip-hop album ever made. For all of music though, it wouldn't crack the top 20 I don't think all the same, I consider myself blessed to have heard so much music that has profoundly agreed with me, and my list of albums I couldn't live without goes quite a long ways... :)

I heared a new Portishead tune like 2 years ago. It was on a Brussels radiostation. It was the best Portishead song Ive heared (I have all the albums). There was no Beth Gibbons. Instead the male producer sang. It was kinda fonky and melodic. The text was more light,... not so sad. Unfortunatly I cant remember the name of the track. I wrote it down but lost the note.. There were already rumors about a new album like 4 years ago. They are taking their time. It better be superb :D :D (which it will be ;) )

I own both Dummy and the self-named second album. Really like them both, but I greatly prefer the second album. Much more engaging melodies, it seems to me, but still great sound and feel. I know next to nothing about the band, but it's obvious they're iconic in the genre--so why is/was their output so small?

why do loads of albums that are shit when you can do few that are amazing and that people still talk about 10 years later.

I guess I was assuming that they could do a few more albums that weren't shit. I don't know any band that quit making music because they thought their best work was behind them. -- "well, let's give it up lads, we'll never outdo that one."

I thought it ws cos Beth Gibbons went on to do the family life thing sooon after the second album. IMO, it's her voice which make up a large part of the sound.
