Are we actually making better music?

'cos I'm not hearing it myself....all music to my ears is very, very dead at the moment.

Maybe you might get excited by The Zutons if you are a corporate fuckwit but anyone with a soul knows ain't shit going on at the moment.

Where is the raw of excitement of even a Nirvana, or hearing Marvin Gay's 'What's Going On' for the first time these days?

All I know is I ain't hearing it and haven't for a long time now.

Get out and see more live acts, be they guitar driven or electronica. I've been to a number of music festivals this summer and found it a breath of fresh air where my interest in music is concerned.

I'm going to see Daft Punk next week and that really has me excited

What´s with all the musical soul-searching around here?

Maybe people are just getting old? The older you get, the more music you´ve heard so naturally the harder it is for you to be impressed by anything.

That doesn´t mean music plain sucks though.

I just heard a new James Holden yesterday and was so blown away by it that I felt like it was the 1st time I was hearing that type of music.

Linkin Parks Reanimated is pretty cracking in my personal opinion

Rock, Rap and a little tiny bit of techno oriented beats - lots of cool edits and the production is second to none

Cool energy in every track - check it out

I had this problem too, then I heard Sigur Rós' "Takk...".

Apart from that, I think Kinetic has a point. I'm 29 and I've heard a lot of music by now and a lot of stuff I liked when I was 17 doesn't impress me anymore and sounds plain flat.
Some still does on the other hand, so this is not so easily solved.

i think this is a tremendously exciting time in music -- electronics taking over -- but also confusing, because the old guard is dying. that is, many tend to look to a certain kind of band for inspiration/assurance that music is alive and well. but that time is gone, regardless whether U2 keeps plugging away. really, is there any reason to think rock/pop was going to survive longer than swing or 50s rock or whatever? having an aesthetic change at the same time as a tech change (digital distribution) is tremendously disruptive.

now is one of the most exciting moments of electronic music; the scene is exploding, so many people are making awesome music with as much as a computer and banging out unbelievable tunes with so many different styles of music.
my corner; house techno 4-to the floor on a quality and somewhat intelligent level is in a super exciting period.
I hear so much good stuff I sometimes think that I should not bother anymore.
I still do though.
and lovin it.

there's alot of amazing music coming out and has been coming out in the last 5 years from all different genres. you just need to know where to look and what to read.. pitchforkmedia, boomkat, allmusic review, and other review sites, will have the latest on what albums are currently out. even if you disagree with some of the reviewers opinions, it gives you an idea of what music is out.

if you dont think any good music is currently out/being made/has been out in the last 5 years you are just plain ignorant. theres soo much, from ALL genres.

Dance music wise if you listen to tracks even from just 1996 you can hear a big difference in the production and quality

granted there are some seriously well pressed and produced jams from 1996 but those were sometimes hard to come by

As opposed to say Rock - it all sounds the same

what happens when you run out of shit to rap about - I heard a rap song about cellular companies last night

not to mention the Myspace Friend request song (cheesy)

At least niggaz like Too-Short, E-40 and Snoop keep it real

In a lot of ways music is really whack but in alot of ways it's so far ahead of the mark it's not easy to comprehend what some musicians are doing

I mean, it may not be until 2097 I actually get what Richie Hawtin is on about
